The Cost Accountant is responsible for accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and gross margin reporting. You’ll lead the month-end close process, reconcile inventory to the general ledger, maintain standard costs, analyze cost variances, and support daily accounting operations. This role partners closely with operations, purchasing, and finance to improve cost visibility and strengthen internal controls.
What You’ll Do
- Lead month-end close and prepare GAAP-compliant reconciliations and workpapers.
- Reconcile inventory subledger to the general ledger and ensure accurate inventory valuation.
- Maintain and update standard costs; analyze cost variances and margin performance.
- Prepare gross margin reports and identify drivers of margin erosion.
- Oversee daily accounting functions including A/P, A/R, payroll, and general ledger activity.
- Maintain strong internal controls and support process improvements.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Experience with inventory accounting and standard costing.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability.
- Detail-oriented with excellent reconciliation skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and lead a small team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- CPA and prior supervisory experience preferred.
