Job Description

Cost Accounting Analyst – Manufacturing

Who: An experienced accounting professional with hands-on cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment and strong Excel and analytical skills.

What: Own and support manufacturing cost analysis, standard costing, variance analysis, reporting, and related accounting activities while providing secondary support for Accounts Receivable.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Cost Accounting Analyst with manufacturing experience to join a collaborative accounting team. The primary focus of this position is cost accounting, including standard labor and overhead costs, manufacturing cost variances, material costs, profitability analysis, and cost estimates.

The ideal candidate has direct experience working with costs in a manufacturing environment, understands how production activity impacts financial results, and can investigate variances to identify underlying causes. This role will also provide support for Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, reporting, and cash management activities.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Cost Accounting

  • Build, maintain, and analyze standard labor and overhead costs by model.

  • Analyze monthly manufacturing cost variances and investigate root causes.

  • Monitor and track cost changes by part and maintain accurate costing information.

  • Prepare monthly marginal profit analyses for representative models.

  • Develop and support cost estimates for new model proposals.

  • Compile monthly labor reports and maintain material indexes.

  • Assist with cost-related planning and preparation of the annual business plan.

  • Partner with internal teams to understand cost drivers and manufacturing variances.

  • Support additional cost accounting, financial analysis, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Accounts Receivable & General Accounting

  • Process Accounts Receivable receipts and monitor aging reports, including customer follow-up.

  • Create miscellaneous A/R invoices and maintain A/R and unapplied cash logs.

  • Prepare daily and monthly sales reports.

  • Generate customer statements and reconcile A/R and sales accounts.

  • Provide backup support for daily cash management activities.

  • Develop and maintain accounting work instruction guides.

  • Assist with schedules and documentation for the annual audit.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard costing, labor and overhead costs, manufacturing variances, and cost analysis.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent accounting experience.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate and explain cost variances.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Self-starter who can work independently while collaborating effectively with others.

  • General accounting and Accounts Receivable experience is beneficial.

  • Experience with BPCS or SAP preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

This position offers a base salary of $60,000–$95,000, depending on experience and qualifications, along with a bonus opportunity, 401(k), generous paid time off, and an excellent benefits package.
