Job Description:

Under general supervision, screens and investigates allegations of criminal wrongdoing that are within the jurisdiction of the agency.

Conducts criminal and administrative investigations to obtain evidence of fraud, violations of state statutes or violations of rules and regulations.

Conduct criminal and administrative interviews and interrogations.

Conduct detailed investigative reviews of financial and business documents to identify fraud.

Follows appropriate laws, guidelines, and policies in maintaining the chain of custody for evidence.

Collects, reviews and evaluates the necessary documents to identify and investigate fraud.

Obtains and executes search warrants and arrest warrants. Prepares thorough and accurate case reports for all investigative activities in a timely manner.

Presents accurate courtroom testimony using proper courtroom demeanor.

Provides assistance to other state, federal or local law enforcement agencies when needed.

Maintains assigned equipment based on Department policy and standards.

Maintains P.O.S.T. Certification and a valid driver’s license; completes mandatory in-service training required each year; and fulfills firearms qualifications annually.

Attends advanced law enforcement and investigative training.

Traveling to counties within assigned territory or throughout state as necessary.

Occasional overnight travel required.

Candidates must submit GA POST Individual Officer Profile (IOR) dated with 30 days.

Competencies Needed:

Consistently demonstrate honest, professional and ethical conduct.

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local criminal laws, rules of evidence, and constitutional protections.

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of criminal investigations, including evidence preservation and chain of custody.

Ability to plan, organize and prioritize criminal investigations, gather and analyze data, write detailed and accurate investigative reports and prepare case files for prosecution.

Ability to conduct complex interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects.

Ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including local, state and federal agencies.

Ability to effectively manage a demanding investigative caseload in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

Utilize strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate investigative findings.

Respond effectively and decisively to rapidly changing priorities and complex investigative challenges.

Accurately utilize Case Management Systems and various investigative databases to track leads and analyze data.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND must meet the prerequisites and complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program certification OR Two years of experience in law enforcement or related field AND P.O.S.T. certification.

Note: Some positions may require incumbent to have a valid Class C driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three (3) years of experience assigned to an investigative unit OR a minimum of five (5) years law enforcement experience assigned to a patrol unit.

Completion of a Bachelor's degree OR possess POST Intermediate Certification or higher.
