Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  Under the guidance and supervision of the Facilities Director and Custodial Coordinator, the Custodial Shift Lead is responsible for ensuring that the Y is clean, safe, sanitary, tidy, functional, and attractive; and for providing supervision and support for all custodial staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 18 years of age.

Alarm/Emergency Procedures training within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.

CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention training within 90 days of hire and biannually thereafter.

Strong experience with cleaning and custodial tasks.

Strong communication, customer service, and problem solving skills.

Ability to appropriately support and delegate responsibilities to other custodial staff.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

All Custodial Shift Leads are expected to fulfill the following functions:

Provide direction and support to custodial staff during assigned shifts.

Reinforce custodial standards, expectations, and priorities set by the Facility Director &/or Custodial Coordinator.

Ensure housekeeping checklists are completed accurately and thoroughly.

Assist with finding substitutes or adjusting schedules within the assigned shift.

Communicate staffing challenges or recurring issues to the Custodial Coordinator.

Observe facility conditions and assign additional cleaning tasks as needed.

Ensure janitorial closets, carts, and equipment are stocked, organized, and ready for use.

Confirm the facility is clean, safe, and member-ready at the end of each shift.

Complete custodial duties including but not limited to; sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, cleaning all spaces, windows and maintaining floors.

Conduct or assign staff to security checks.

Perform basic maintenance and minor repair tasks as needed.

Communicate quality concerns, maintenance needs, and operational observations to the Custodial Coordinator

Support onboarding and training of new custodial staff during assigned shifts as directed.

In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities, Custodial Shift Lead will:

Pursue/participate in ongoing skills training as requested

Participate in the annual campaign by assisting, giving, and/or campaigning

Attend required staff meetings

Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.

Attend required abuse risk management training.

Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.

Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

Ability to safely and effectively perform required tasks involving lifting, reaching, bending, carrying, and operation of basic custodial and maintenance tools and equipment.

Ability to work a day, evening, night, “swing”, or weekend shift. 

Ability to inspect any areas of the Y necessary to ensure custodial quality.
