Custodian

For over 70 years, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. We currently seek a Custodian to help maintain our new, modernized facilities.We believe each person is created uniquely by God and therefore is endowed with value and dignity. Light of Life is committed to building a staff community that reflects the diversity of His creation. ~ Jerrel Gilliam, Executive Director SUMMARY OF POSITION:The Custodian position is responsible for maintaining a healthy facility to ensure the cleanliness and safety of our staff, clients, and volunteers. This includes mopping and vacuuming floors, disinfecting surfaces and restrooms, and emptying trash and recycling cans along with other activities as assigned. This position is responsible for the care of our various buildings in the North Side and reports to the Facilities Manager.  RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs timely building cleaning and provides cleaning support to various departments; cleans all facilities daily including common areas, bathrooms, office cleaning, outside grounds, and trash removal.Notify management of recurring deficiencies or needs for repairs.Stock and maintain the supply room.Completes project work as assigned which may include, but not limited to heavy cleaning, wall washing, window cleaning, elevator cleaning, and clogged toilets.Adheres to all safety standards in the use of chemicals, equipment, and machinery and in clearly marking hazardous areas resulting from cleaning processes.Adheres to the policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the mission as well as regulatory bodies.Performing and documenting routine inspection and maintenance activities.Train interns or volunteers and oversee their work.Assists other staff with assembly and tear down for a variety of events.Performs other duties as assigned or required. As part of a Christian Community, all jobs at Light of Life require employees to:Work as a disciple of Jesus Christ, sharing the Gospel through actions and words.Reinforce Light of Life's Core Values that include Honoring God, Loving Well, Embracing Growth, Valuing Diversity, and Pursuing Excellence.Establish mutual respect while supporting a safe, authentic environment.Practice effective stewardship of all resources.Model personal responsibility, accountability, timely reporting, and a self-evaluative lifestyle EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:Valid PA Driver's License with clean driving record

Proven work experience as a janitor or facility custodian

Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies

Familiarity with material safety data sheets

Functional use of computers to access schedules, timecards, and employee benefits.Ability to pass security screening. Light of Life is committed to maintaining a drug-free community.  Due to the nature of our ministry serving some who struggle with issues of addiction or drug abuse, our staff may not use or consume controlled substances like marijuana, even when prescribed by a physician.
