Job Summary
The Cyber Analyst supports critical infrastructure systems for the Department of the Secretary of State (SoS). This role provides expertise in information security auditing, risk assessment, and network security testing to ensure compliance with federal and state security standards.
The department operates under the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) and undergoes audits by the Social Security Administration and other agencies. This position is responsible for developing, reviewing, and managing RMF-related documentation and assisting with independent system security assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation and documentation of the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF)
- Conduct information security audits and risk assessments
- Perform network security analysis and penetration testing
- Identify endpoint anomalies and malware exploitation techniques
- Monitor and analyze security events using tools such as Security Onion and ELK stack
- Take prompt action on security incidents and collaborate with internal teams
- Prepare documentation for independent system assessments and compliance reviews
- Assist with continuous monitoring and security control validation
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in information security and cybersecurity operations
- Experience with Security Onion, ELK stack, and Threat Down
- Strong analytical skills for security event investigation and incident response
- Understanding of social engineering tactics and mitigation strategies
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field
- 5+ years of experience in information security
- Hands-on experience with risk management, security assessments, security architecture, and incident response
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure
- Familiarity with NIST RMF or Cybersecurity Framework (CSF)
Work Environment
- Onsite position in Augusta, ME
- Must reside within 2 hours of Augusta
- Supports systems classified as critical infrastructure
