Position Summary: The Cytogenetic / Molecular Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall technical and operational oversight of both Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics laboratories, with a balanced 50/50 focus. This role ensures the accuracy, quality, and compliance of all laboratory testing, while providing leadership in developing and implementing advanced diagnostic methodologies. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and operational leadership for Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics laboratories
  • Oversee test validation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP)
  • Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and quality control programs
  • Ensure accuracy, validity, and timely reporting of diagnostic results
  • Direct and evaluate laboratory staff, including training and performance management
  • Collaborate with physicians, genetic counselors, and clinical teams on test utilization and interpretation
  • Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance laboratory performance
  • Maintain proficiency testing standards and continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Support educational and training programs for laboratory personnel and trainees
Qualifications:
  • PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related life science field
  • Board certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) required (ABMGG)
  • Dual board certification in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics preferred; LGG-certified candidates accepted
  • Eligibility for or possession of a Tennessee state laboratory director license required
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical laboratory leadership and operations
