The Learning House, a year-round therapeutic day school located in Wheeling, IL serving middle and high school students for students who have been determined eligible to receive special education for ED/LD/OHI and Autism. Through the use of mastery learning and natural and logical consequences, The Learning House integrates individualized education, vocational support, counseling, and outdoor experiential activities to encourage a sense of self worth and mutual respect; healthy decision making; responsibility and accountability; a sense of community; and a successful future. Job Description:
The Associate Teacher assists in all aspects of the instructional program and behavioral management of students in this year-round program. The Associate Teacher may be responsible for small group instruction under the direct or indirect supervision of the teacher or administrator. The Associate Teacher participates in activities necessary to maintain classroom integration and to support students’ Individualized Education Plans in all curricular areas, including, but not limited to classroom, community, vocational, recreational, and domestic domains. In addition to the above, the Associate Teacher drives a van route to and from school on a daily basis and completes required training in order to do so (paid for by employer).
Qualifications:
- Meet the state requirements for Paraprofessional or Substitute Teacher Educator License; Bachelor’s Degree and experience working with special needs students preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Twenty-one years of age, valid Driver’s License, good driving record.
- Willingness to establish and maintain effective relationships with students and staff.
- Strong academic abilities.
- Ability to converse in Spanish a plus.
