Job Description

Description

America's Group one of the fast growing companies in the Auto Auction industry has an Internship opportunity available on our Data & Analytics Team.

The Data & Analytics Internship gives students the opportunity to work inside a modernizing analytics organization focused on data science, analytics engineering, machine learning, data quality, and enterprise-scale reporting.

As part of America's Group D&A team, whose purpose is to enable data-informed decisions across the enterprise, you'll help build the future state of our analytics capabilities, including governed data marts, predictive modeling, AI-ready datasets, and scalable insights.

This internship is designed for students who are excited about data science + engineering, not traditional finance.

What You'll Do

As a D&A Intern, you will collaborate with the team across projects involving:

Analytics Engineering & Data Preparation

  • Clean, transform, and structure large-scale datasets for analysis and machine learning
  • Build or support data pipelines using SQL, Python, and/or Alteryx
  • Assist in creating AI-ready, modular dataset outputs aligned with our evolving data mart and governance framework

Machine Learning & Predictive Modeling

  • Support feature engineering, model evaluation, and performance tracking
  • Help design experiments or evaluate historical behavioral trends (e.g., vehicle, buyer/seller, conversion, pricing)
  • Explore methods for anomaly detection, forecasting, and model explainability

Visualization & Insights

  • Build analytical dashboards and reporting assets using Tableau Cloud or Power BI
  • Translate patterns and model outputs into insights for operational and financial teams

Data Governance, Quality & Documentation

  • Contribute to data quality checks, lineage documentation, and definition consistency across the enterprise
  • Support the rollout of a business glossary and certified D&A datasets

Collaboration & Learning

  • Work with analysts, developers, and data scientists to deliver actionable insights
  • Participate in weekly analytics huddles, standups, and innovation discussions

What You'll Gain

  • Real-world experience in enterprise data science & analytics engineering
  • Direct exposure to the D&A strategic vision: predictive analytics, AI adoption, self-service enablement, and modern data governance
  • Mentorship from analysts, developers, and data scientists
  • Ownership of meaningful projects that contribute to our 2026 analytics roadmap
  • A portfolio of production-style work that goes beyond typical academic exercises

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in: Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Engineering, or related technical field
  • Comfortable with Python and/or SQL through coursework or projects
  • Basic understanding of statistics, data wrangling, or machine learning concepts
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in the Indianapolis/Carmel area for the duration of the internship
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn new tools quickly

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience or coursework in:

  • Python (pandas, scikit-learn, numpy), R, or similar

  • SQL databases and relational modeling

  • Machine learning fundamentals or academic ML projects

  • Data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or Looker)

  • Cloud tools or APIs

  • Familiarity with version control (Git), pipelines, or workflow tools (e.g., Alteryx)

  • Prior internship, project, or research experience in analytics, data engineering, or data science

  • Interest in applied AI, automation, or predictive analytics (RAG, embeddings, LLM workflows is a bonus, not required)
