Job Summary
A Data Center a Voice/Data cable installation tech will participate in the installation of connectivity solutions. A technician I, II or III can be assigned to a single project or multiple projects, depending on size and complexity. The installation technician will complete the assignments issued by the supervisor and must be willing to learn, progress and grow a career.
Voice/Data cable installation tech I, II and III responsibilities

- Installation of low-voltage cabling systems including all aspects of the installation process:
- Ability to learn basic wiring diagrams and installation instructions
- Ability to learn how to terminate common types of fiber optic fittings (SC, ST, LC, etc.) efficiently and to industry, manufacturer, and AFL standards
- Ability to learn how to efficiently terminate copper cabling to industry, manufacturer, and AFL standards
- Ability to learn how to test different categories of copper media (Category 5e, Category 6 etc.).
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
- Maintain satisfactory compliance with customer security requirements
- Maintain a neat and orderly worksite
- Understands, adheres to, and promotes the Environmental, Health & Safety policies of AFL Telecom
- Attend classes and training sessions, as requested by AFL management, to obtain and maintain vendor certifications
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
Personal Qualities
- Communication Skills- Read, write, and understand the English language, Spanish is a plus.
- Willingness to learn and develop a mastery of installation practices and methods.
Qualifications
- 1 to 5 years data cabling experience
- BICSI Certificates- Install I or Installer II (preferred)
- Ability to pass pre-employment screening
- Valid Driver's License
- Finger & wrist dexterity & hand/eye coordination
- Ability to work from heights such as man lifts, scissor lifts & roof tops utilizing proper fall protection
- Ability to use small hand tools
- Ability to use power tools
- Climbing of stairs and ladders
- Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., and drive a vehicle
Working Conditions
- ISP/OSP environments
- Ability to accept periodic assignments that involve travel away from immediate district office area based on client needs, business needs and project scope
- Exposure to noisy conditions
- Ability to work nights and weekends on a rotational basis.
- Must be able to work in the United States
