Overview
- We are looking for a Data Center Technical Operations Engineer III who will act as the Owner's Commissioning Representative (Cx Owner's Rep) supporting retro-commissioning projects in operational data centers.
- In this role, you will oversee the testing, validation, and commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems to ensure they operate efficiently and meet design standards. You will coordinate with vendors, contractors, commissioning teams, and internal data center operations teams to ensure all systems are properly installed, tested, and documented.
- The role involves managing commissioning activities for systems such as power infrastructure, HVAC, cooling systems, generators, and monitoring systems while ensuring minimal disruption to live data center operations.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Oversight
- Oversee retro-commissioning activities in operational data centers.
- Manage and coordinate with third-party commissioning vendors.
- Review as-built documents, design drawings, and equipment submittals.
- Validate functional testing and integrated system testing.
Systems Testing & Validation
Support commissioning and testing of critical infrastructure systems including:
- Medium and Low Voltage Power Systems
- Generators
- UPS Systems
- HVAC Systems (Air Handlers, Exhaust Fans, VFDs)
- Chilled Water Systems
- Pumps and Hydronic Systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
- Testing, Adjusting & Balancing (TAB)
Project Coordination
- Coordinate commissioning schedules with data center operations teams.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards.
- Monitor commissioning progress and track issues to closure.
- Provide status reports and metrics to leadership.
Documentation & Reporting
- Review commissioning documents including:
- Test scripts
- Test plans
- Functional testing procedures
- Commissioning reports
- Maintain commissioning issue logs and ensure resolution.
- Support project close-out documentation.
Project Leadership
- Lead multiple commissioning projects simultaneously.
- Identify risks and resolve technical issues quickly.
- Support continuous improvement by documenting lessons learned.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in commissioning, installation, or startup of electrical or mechanical systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Strong knowledge of critical infrastructure systems used in data centers.
- Ability to review engineering drawings, specifications, and sequences of operations.
- Experience reviewing or developing commissioning test plans and reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems in critical infrastructure.
- Experience with commissioning procedures and functional testing.
- Ability to read and edit construction drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience working in high-pressure operational environments.
