Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Data Governance Intern to join our Data Governance team for the summer. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the build-out of a modern, scalable data governance practice, with a strong emphasis on supporting emerging AI initiatives. As our team partners closely with the Cresset AI team, we are rapidly expanding our focus on governing data used in AI solutions. We are looking for an intern who can provide hands-on support to help establish consistent, fit-for-purpose governance aligned to real business use cases-ensuring that the data powering AI is accurate, well-controlled, and trusted. Working within a small, high-impact team, the intern will play a meaningful role in translating governance strategy into practical, day-to-day execution. This role provides critical leverage to a small Data Governance team by taking on detailed, high-value execution work. The intern's contributions will directly enable the team to focus on strategic priorities while ensuring that foundational governance capabilities-especially for AI-are built in a scalable and sustainable way.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and ongoing development of our enterprise data catalog (Alation)
- Prepare and organize metadata to enable effective Data Steward curation and governance workflows
- Catalog, document, and maintain AI-related datasets in Alation, ensuring standards, completeness, and usability
- Partner with Data Stewards and data owners to support governance adoption and alignment to business use cases
- Help organize, validate, and maintain governance artifacts, definitions, and documentation
- Translate defined governance frameworks into repeatable, scalable operational processes
- Contribute to improving data quality, transparency, and control across both traditional and AI-driven data use cases
- Participate in intern programming including lunch & learns and networking opportunities
Qualifications
- Junior or Senior status pursuing a bachelor's degree
- Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Interest in data governance, data management, analytics, and AI/ML
- Strong analytical and data-handling skills
- Demonstrated interest or capability in AI-related concepts, tools, or applications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
