Job Description

The work we do has an impact on millions of lives, and you can be a part of it.
We help protect our customers against life’s uncertainties. Regardless of where you work within the company, you’ll be helping provide protection and peace of mind when our customers need it most.

As a Data Product Manager, you will drive the development, management, and delivery of data products that meet customer needs and advance Protective’s business objectives. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams — including data engineering, data science, data governance, and platform engineering — to bring high-quality data products to market.

You will oversee the entire product lifecycle, from ideation and prototyping through deployment and ongoing support. Your work ensures that data products are scalable, reliable, secure, and compliant with industry standards.

Success in this role requires the ability to understand complex business challenges, lead the development of solutions that address them, translate product vision into actionable requirements, align execution teams, and effectively communicate progress to stakeholders at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Collaborate with the Director of Data & AI Solutions to define, articulate, and champion the vision, mission, and strategic roadmap for data products.
  • Lead market research and competitive analysis to inform strategy and identify opportunities in data management.
  • Assess complex business challenges and recommend best-in-class practices to enhance and differentiate data products.
  • Develop and maintain a forward-looking product roadmap that outlines development and release plans.

Product Development

  • Translate business needs into detailed data product specifications and technical requirements.
  • Partner closely with data engineering, data science, governance, and platform teams to develop and launch data products.
  • Prioritize features and enhancements based on customer feedback, market insights, and business priorities.
  • Work with teams to develop comprehensive documentation, including user guides, technical specifications, and FAQs.

Lifecycle Management

  • Provide strategic oversight from ideation and prototyping through testing, deployment, and post-launch support.
  • Understand and support the integration of data from diverse sources.
  • Ensure data products are scalable, reliable, secure, and compliant with industry standards and regulations.

Performance Monitoring

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure product success and business impact.
  • Analyze product performance to identify opportunities for improvement and make data-driven recommendations.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, partners, and senior leadership.
  • Clearly communicate product updates, strategic vision, and performance metrics to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Team Collaboration & Leadership

  • Lead and inspire cross-functional teams in the creation and delivery of data products.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Work closely with product managers, solution architects, and business analysts to design high-impact data solutions.

Market Trends & Innovation

  • Monitor advancements in data architecture, data integration, analytics, and AI.
  • Keep the team informed of industry trends to maintain competitiveness in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in product management, business analysis, data engineering, data governance, data science, or a related field, with at least 3 years specifically focused on data products or data-driven initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of data technologies, integration, and architecture, including familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery), and data processing frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Experience with BI Tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and data analytics, including data modeling, ETL processes, and SQL.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in advanced data analytics tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
  • Experience with advanced data analytics techniques, including machine learning, predictive analytics, and data visualization.
  • Experience implementing Medallion Architecture in cloud-based data platforms like Databricks.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as Azure DevOps.
  • Certifications in data management, product management, or related areas such as Certified Data Management Professional (CSMP)
