JOB SUMMARY
SITECH Wyoming LLC is the authorized Trimble heavy civil construction technology dealer for most of Wyoming, providing advanced positioning solutions used worldwide.
This role supports construction technology from Caterpillar Inc. and Trimble, both in the field and in the office. Responsibilities include converting engineered plans into machine control formats using Trimble Business Center and supporting systems like GCS900 and Earthworks.
The Data Specialist trains customers on software and 2D/3D machine control systems, sets up and calibrates site positioning equipment, and provides on-site troubleshooting, repair, and technical support. This role also assists with demos, customer visits, and training, ensuring timely, high-quality service and strong customer satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Primary resource to convert engineered plans to a Trimble format to be used in 2D and 3D machine control, grade checking, site takeoff, and volume calculations.
- Convert competitor's calibration and design files to a Trimble format.
- Sales, support, and training on Trimble Business Center.
- In field support of base stations, rovers, site calibration, and utilizing on and off machine technology for use in Heavy Civil Construction sites.
- Assist in the installation, measure-up and machine calibration of heavy equipment working with a field service mechanic.
- Provides on-site troubleshooting as needed.
- Provides operator training to end-users.
- Documents and reports field activities as well as being pro-active in creating process. improvements.
- Assist sales and marketing with trade shows and events.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY
- Two (2) year college or vocational degree in civil engineering, surveying, or equivalent.
- Strong survey background and the ability to run GPS survey equipment, total stations, and construction lasers.
- Strong technology aptitude and knowledge of Trimble machine control and site positioning products.
- Ability to troubleshoot Trimble hardware and software.
- A knowledge of machine control hardware and software to enable the production of accurate customer quotes.
- Ability to listen and understand customer's needs.
- Able to follow both routine and advanced procedures and to think analytically.
- Ability to plan and organize work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal, written, and problem solving skills.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience with various construction file types such CAD designs with localized coordinate systems, surface files, line work, plan set, control point files, and coordinate systems.
- Ability to convert a vector PDF to Trimble compatible files.
- Survey experience including setting up a construction site, grade checking, and site takeoff.
- Familiarity with construction site operations using heavy equipment
PREFERRED
- Familiarity with heavy equipment.
- Corridor and paving experience.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Use of computer and/or tablet, printer, copier, fax, cellphone.
- Use of various hand tools, levels straight edges and measuring tape comp.
- Use of electrical wire and plugs.
- Use of radios, GPS, lasers, Robotic Total Stations.
- Use of tripods, data collectors and other survey equipment.
- Moderate to loud noise levels, exposure to all outdoor weather conditions.
- Must hold and maintain a valid Wyoming driver's license.
- Standing for long periods on concrete or other hard surfaces; walking over rough and uneven terrain.
- Sitting and driving a vehicle for long periods.
- Bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing.
- Use of ladders and steps for accessing equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without assistance.
- Frequent use of hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling, manipulating tools/objects, and writing/typing.
- Frequent exposure to substances, including but not limited to: grease, oil, dirt.
- Exposure to dangerous environments, including construction sites and mine sites required.
- Overtime, varying schedules, and overnight stays away from home are required.
