Job Description
The Ohio Industrial Commission (OIC), Office of Information Technology, is seeking a talented Database Administration Specialist 1. The ideal candidate will design and implement processes for the efficient transfer of (ETL/ELT) between systems within and outside the agency; design and develop dashboards, summaries and visualizations using agency data and solutions such as MS Power BI; and assist with data model designs and physical data model implementations. Additionally, this position will assist with the development and maintenance of OIC's data warehouse using cloud solutions such as Snowflake and Azure Data Factory. At the full performance level of the position, the candidate should be able to collaborate with systems administrators to set table access security, provide some data governance, write platform specific code for data migrations and visualizations (Python, SQL, Java, Dax), and monitor cloud and on-premise databases and stores utilizing logs, load test results, and performance monitoring tools. A strong knowledge of RDBMS tools such as MS SQL Server and schemaless/no-SQL solutions is required. This role demands a solid understanding of agency business processes, along with strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor, advises & consults with users on accessing various databases & to resolve data conflicts & inappropriate use of data.
- Resolves Tier I issues.
- Promotes system security & awareness by adhering to the Agency's &/or State's IT security policy(s) & standards.
- Provides performance tuning for query language statements.
- Reads & interprets query plans. Provides monitoring using vendor supplied & 3rd party utilities. Restores from disaster recovery plan.
- Monitors disaster recovery plan.
- Sets security & validates all updates through database connections.
- Collaborates with system administrator to set table access security.
- Assists with data model design Implements physical data models.
- Assists with tuning a single RBMS system on a single platform.
- Assists with writing platform specific code.
- Designs & implements processes for the efficient transfer of data (ETL/ELT).
- Monitors data transfer processes.
- Resolves data conflicts & inappropriate use of data. Provides ETL & data warehouse support.

36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: database administration providing Tier I support to information system users and/or IT staff, assisting with data modeling and conducting performance tuning and configuration including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.

- Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
