Databricks Platform Engineer
Job Summary
The Databricks Platform Engineer builds and runs the platform everyone else builds on. This role provisions and hardens workspaces, automates the environment, manages access and identity integration, and keeps the platform reliable, observable, and predictable as adoption grows. The work sits at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, DevOps practice, and Databricks administration.
Key Responsibilities
Provision and configure Databricks accounts, workspaces, metastores, and compute policies through infrastructure as code
Integrate identity, single sign on, and SCIM provisioning with the enterprise directory
Define and enforce cluster policies, instance pools, and serverless configuration to control cost and standardize compute
Manage secrets, credential passthrough, service principals, and network configuration including private connectivity
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for notebooks, jobs, and Databricks Asset Bundles
Implement platform observability covering job health, cluster utilization, audit logs, and system tables
Run platform upgrades, runtime version strategy, and change management
Serve as escalation point for platform level incidents and performance issues
Required Skills
5+ years in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or DevOps, including 2+ years administering Databricks
Strong Terraform experience, including the Databricks provider
Working command of at least one major cloud covering networking, IAM, storage, and private endpoints
Scripting in Python and Bash
Experience with Git based workflows and CI/CD tooling such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or GitLab
Understanding of Unity Catalog administration, including metastore setup and privilege management
Preferred Skills
Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Platform Administrator credential
Experience with Databricks system tables for cost and usage reporting
Kubernetes, Docker, and container based delivery experience
Prior work in a regulated environment with formal change control
