Position Title: DEAN FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS (GENERAL EDUCATION)

Position Summary: The Dean for Academic Affairs serves as the senior academic administrator for an assigned department and provides leadership, supervision, strategic direction, and accountability for all instructional programs, personnel, resources, and academic operations within the department. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean for Academic Affairs ensures the delivery of high-quality instruction, continuous program improvement, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, student success, fiscal stewardship, workforce responsiveness, and alignment with institutional goals.

The Dean for Academic Affairs is accountable for departmental performance outcomes, including enrollment, retention, graduation, licensure and certification attainment, placement, and program effectiveness. The Dean for Academic Affairs promotes a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, data-informed decision-making, and student-centered learning while serving as the primary advocate for departmental programs among internal and external stakeholders.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Dean for Academic Affairs ensures academic quality, regulatory compliance, and student success while promoting programs to internal and external stakeholders. General responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Provide leadership and supervision for academic programs, faculty, and staff within the department.
  • Ensure compliance with TCSG standards, accreditation requirements, and institutional policies.
  • Lead curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, credentialing, scheduling, and evaluation of faculty.
  • Support student enrollment, advising, retention, and completion efforts in collaboration with Student Affairs.
  • Manage department budget, resources, facilities, and instructional materials.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports to support strategic planning and institutional effectiveness.
  • Promote academic programs and build partnerships with business, industry, and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate advisory committee activities and ensure alignment with workforce needs.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping, reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in college governance, committees, and professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience in an undergraduate program at the postsecondary level.
  • Master’s degree (required that the candidate meets Ogeechee Technical College Faculty Credentialing standards to teach undergraduate transferable coursework).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant academic leadership experience (i.e. Program Chair, Program Coordinator, or Program Director)
  • Must possess and demonstrate effective verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to student success initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with SACSCOC accreditation processes.
  • Experience serving in an academic leadership role at the level of Dean or higher.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • The successful candidate may be required to travel to any Ogeechee Technical College location.
