Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a Dental Hygienist to provide preventive and therapeutic oral health care services within a correctional healthcare setting. This position supports the facility’s dental program by delivering routine dental hygiene services, promoting oral health, and assisting in maintaining compliance with New York State dental regulations. The role requires professionalism, adherence to security protocols, and collaboration with clinical and facility staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Job responsibilities:
• Perform dental prophylaxis, scaling, and root planning as appropriate.
• Conduct oral health assessments and document findings.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene and preventive care.
• Assist dentists during examinations and procedures when required.
• Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with facility policies.
• Ensure infection control standards and sterilization protocols are followed.
• Comply with all Department of Corrections and facility security procedures.
• Maintain professional conduct in a correctional environment.
• Physical Examination Responsibilities:
• Perform intraoral examinations and periodontal charting.
• Take and review dental radiographs as permitted.
• Identify oral health issues requiring dentist evaluation.
• Monitor patient response to hygiene treatments.
• Medical Oversight Responsibilities:
• Work under the supervision of licensed dental professionals.
• Adhere to the New York State dental hygiene scope of practice.
• Report clinical concerns and abnormal findings promptly.
• Support continuity of care within the dental services program.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
• Required: Current license and registration to practice Dental Hygiene in New York State.
• Preferred: Prior experience in institutional, public health, or correctional settings.
• Other Requirements: Successful completion of a security background check.
• Skills:
• Strong clinical dental hygiene skills.
• Knowledge of infection control and sterilization procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a secure environment.
• Professional communication and documentation skills.
