Job Description

Dentist – Job Description

Position Summary The Dentist provides comprehensive dental care to patients, including preventive, restorative, and emergency services. This role includes supervising Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists, collaborating with other healthcare providers, and supporting high-quality, patient-centered care. The Dentist works closely with the dental team and reports to clinical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis, treatment planning, restorative procedures, crown and bridge work, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics, and minor oral surgery
  • Initiate and interpret radiographic and laboratory studies
  • Administer and prescribe anesthetics and medications in accordance with state regulations
  • Refer patients to specialty care or external providers as appropriate
  • Supervise Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists
  • Conduct follow-up care and ensure continuity of treatment
  • Educate patients and families on dental and oral health
  • Assist with reviewing productivity, scheduling procedures, and establishing care guidelines
  • Support illness prevention through patient and staff education
  • Participate in in-service and ongoing staff training
  • Foster strong patient relationships and a high level of customer service
  • Manage difficult patient situations with professionalism and sound judgment
  • Perform services in accordance with organizational policies and professional dental standards
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Utilize electronic health records and dental software efficiently
  • Monitor and ensure proper use of dental equipment and supplies
  • Assist with evaluating and improving operational and administrative processes
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with patient-centered care models
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Training

  • Completion of required onboarding and compliance training

Requirements

Education & Licensure

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)
  • Active and unrestricted dental license in the state of practice

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred
  • Experience in community-based or nonprofit settings is a plus

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable dental laws and regulations

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and dental practice management software
