Job Description

SMX is seeking a visionary and experienced leader to serve as Deputy Director, Technology and Innovation (N9) for USNAVSOUTH/FOURTHFLT. This critical role plays a vital role in shaping the future of the U.S. Navy by leading the charge in operationalizing the Hybrid Fleet - a revolutionary concept integrating unmanned systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) into naval operations.

This position is onsite in Mayport, Florida and requires a DoD TS/SCI

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leading the N9 Directorate:

  • Overseeing daily operations and providing support to the Director and team
  • Managing systems, processes, resources, and communication within the directorate
  • Contributing to strategic planning and developing long-range plans alongside the Director
  • Attending internal and external meetings, representing the Director and N9
  • Collaborating with other government agencies, such as USSOUTHCOM, JIATF-S, and USCG, to ensure seamless collaboration
  • Sharing expertise and driving innovation by identifying opportunities for integrating emerging unmanned vehicles and technologies into the Hybrid Fleet
  • Maximizing the effectiveness of autonomous operations in support of Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) Unmanned Systems (UxS) 
  • Coordinating command and control development and integration with 4F/USNAVSO operational planning to ensure alignment with the Hybrid Fleet vision and commander's intent

Required Skills/Experience 

  • Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred
  • Experience with the Navy Planning Process

Desired Skills/Experience 

  • Experience with Navy Maritime Operations Center (MOC) highly desired 
  • Previous command/leadership experience in the US Navy
  • Experience with unmanned systems (UxS)
  • Experience with AI/ML
  • Completion of Navy, Service Level, or Joint Professional Military Education programs

The proposed salary for this position is:

$148,000—$185,000 USD
