Job Description
CheckerLong term contract: $35-40/hourPrincipal Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for checking designs and following them throughout their lifecycle, including prototype, production release, and change management.Check drawing packages for correctness and completeness and generate PDF markups documenting mistakes found and dimensional improvements.Checker will often make 2D drawing changes to expedite the release process.Verify all drawing and model content meets program requirements.Verify 3D CAD designs are interference free, have proper clearances, follow best design practices, are manufacturable, and are optimized for weight and cost.Assist in generating best practice documentation for designers and engineers to use as a guide to reduce common mistakes and re-work.Complete checking metric documents as required per customer requirements.Serve as the final reviewer of drawing packages delivered to the government.Strict adherence to government standards and attention to detail is required.Provide dimensional expertise in meetings and design reviews.Perform tolerance stack-ups relating to form, fit, and function, utilizing results to improve designs, reduce potential for bad parts, and resolve build issues.Work effectively in a team environment with various stakeholders by regularly communicating project status, design issues, and path forward. Knowledge and SkillsBachelor’s degree or equivalent design experience.Minimum of 5 years of experience in 3D CAD modeling and packaging of wheeled vehicles and their systems, with a minimum of 10 years of overall design experience required (CREO and/or NX).Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009 or newer.Ability to guide designers in proper application of GD&T.Ability to check and correct work submitted by designers.Ability to make drawing changes in the 2D CAD drawing environment.Familiarity with older revisions of ASME Y14.5.Strong understanding of descriptive geometry with the ability to instruct and correct work submitted by designers.Familiarity with generating component and assembly tolerance stack-ups using tolerance stack sheets.Formal training in applying GD&T and tolerance stack-ups or relevant work experience.Ability to interrogate CAD designs to verify proper design clearances, perform interference checks using CAD functionality, verify design best practices were followed, and verify military standards are adhered to.Broad understanding of vehicle design, including sheet metal stampings, weldments, castings, forgings, plastic injection molding, vacuum forming, hose forming, tube and pipe bending, and electrical harness design.Strong communication skills, high attention to detail, and ability to work well with others.Comfortable participating in cross-functional design reviews.Working knowledge of PDM/PLM systems, including Teamcenter, Windchill, and SAP.Working knowledge of military specifications and standards, including MIL-STD-31000, MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1366, and others.Basic skills with Microsoft Office software. Physical EffortSight: Must be able to regularly read computer screens, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks safely and efficiently, including regular use of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.Hearing: Must be able to hear well enough to communicate regularly. Working ConditionsPhysical Location: This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. Must be able to perform job functions in varying and difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, working at heights, and exposure to constant or intermittent loud noises.Teamwork: Work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace.Listening Skills: Must understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure tasks are completed accurately.Ability to Follow Instructions: Managers assign tasks and responsibilities that vary; must be able to follow instructions competently.Methodical Approach: Production lines follow a set process, requiring a methodical approach to ensure tasks are completed in the correct order for smooth operation.Concentration: May perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, requiring a strong level of concentration for quality control purposes.
