Job Description

Job Description

At Chariot, we believe the quality of a product is defined by thousands of small decisions.

We're looking for a Design Engineer who obsesses over those decisions.

This isn't a traditional frontend engineering role. You'll own the experience of using Chariot—working at the intersection of engineering, product, and design to build software that is intuitive, performant, and delightful. You'll partner closely with our Chief Product Officer to shape products from early ideas through polished implementation.

Sometimes that means building entirely new product experiences. Other times it means improving a workflow, refining an interaction, making the interface feel faster, simplifying information architecture, improving accessibility, or fixing dozens of tiny details that collectively make software exceptional. You won't simply execute tickets — you'll help define what great looks like.

  • Own the quality of Chariot's web application and user experience.

  • Partner closely with Product and Design from concept through launch.

  • Build polished, accessible, and performant interfaces using React, TypeScript, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS.

  • Translate Figma designs into pixel-perfect implementations while improving them along the way.

  • Build and evolve reusable components and design systems.

  • Lead initiatives that improve usability, performance, accessibility, and frontend architecture.

  • Prototype ideas quickly and use AI tools to accelerate development, testing, and product evaluation.

  • Collaborate across the stack when needed to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

👤 About You

  • 3–5 years of experience building modern web applications.

  • Exceptional frontend engineering skills with strong product and design instincts.

  • You obsess over the details. Typography, spacing, hierarchy, accessibility, responsiveness, browser behavior, performance, and interaction design all matter to you.

  • You're highly proficient with modern frontend technologies including TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS.

  • You have experience working in Figma and are comfortable turning designs into polished, production-ready interfaces.

  • You're comfortable working across the stack when improving the overall product experience requires backend changes.

  • Strong sense of ownership and the ability to take ideas from concept to polished product.

  • Experience with fintech, payments, or Go is a plus.

📚 What you’ll get from Chariot

At Chariot, we are building modern, end-to-end payment infrastructure making donors' lives easier, and nonprofits' lives better. $600B gets donated to charity each year in the US and the existing technology/infrastructure was still built for our grandparents generation. Chariot is here to change that.

  • Traction. Annualizing over $1.8B in payment volume through Chariot. Tens of thousands of nonprofits already onboarded including American Cancer Society, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and University of Pennsylvania.

  • Impact: That money services nonprofits working in homelessness, health, education, the environment, and so much more.

  • Market opportunity: Billion dollar revenue opportunity. Fintech company operating in an untapped $600B market

  • The Team. >30% of Charioteers are former founders. NYC office, in-person Monday through Thursday, WFH Friday. The public handbook shows how we operate.
