Design Engineer

Job Title: Design Engineer Job Summary: System One is seeking a Design Engineer to join a product team focused on building AI-powered experiences. This role sits at the intersection of design and front-end engineering, responsible for executing (not just designing) high-quality, accessible UI in production. You’ll translate Figma designs into scalable React components and help deliver intuitive, performant experiences for AI-driven products, including conversational interfaces, knowledge systems, and membership experiences.Responsibilities:

• Build production-ready front-end features using React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
• Translate Figma designs into code, ensuring high fidelity and clear interaction states
• Partner closely with designers, engineers, and product managers to deliver polished UI
• Implement and consume design systems (components, tokens, patterns)
• Develop UI for AI-powered products, including:
  • Chat/conversational interfaces
  • Streaming responses and loading states
  • Knowledge base and agent-driven experiences
• Ensure WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility (semantic HTML, ARIA, keyboard navigation, etc.)
• Identify and resolve gaps between design intent and technical implementation
• Contribute to code reviews, design reviews, and agile ceremonies
• Document interaction behaviors, accessibility considerations, and component usage
• Enhance internal and customer-facing web experiences, including membership flows

• 5+ years of front-end design+ development experience
• Strong expertise in React and TypeScript (production-level work required)
• Proven ability to execute designs in code (not just create them)
• Expert-level Figma skills, including:
  • Auto layout
  • Layers
  • Design-to-dev handoff
• Experience with:
  • Figma MCP Server (must understand what MCP is)
  • GitHub + GitHub Copilot
• Experience building AI-powered or conversational UI products
• Strong understanding of:
  • UX/UI principles
  • Responsive design
  • Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA)
• Familiarity with accessibility tools (axe, WAVE, screen readers like NVDA/JAWS/VoiceOver)
• Experience working with design systems in production
• Proficiency with modern tooling (e.g., Vite/Webpack, Jest, Testing Library, Playwright)

• Experience with Storybook
• Background in AI product interfaces (LLM interactions, prompt rendering, etc.)
• Experience contributing to design system evolution

• A hands-on builder who can take designs all the way to production
• Someone with strong design acumen+ engineering depth
• Experience working on AI-driven products and interfaces
• A collaborative partner who can bridge design and engineering effectively
• A portfolio showcasing end-to-end UI work (required)
