Design Engineer II (Motorsports Focus)
Location: Huntersville, NC (Hybrid – 2–3 days remote per week)Duration: 5–6 month contract (potential extension based on project needs)Pay Rate: $53–$58 per hourTravel: ~5% (regional travel within ~1.5 hours)Position OverviewWe are seeking a mid-level Design Engineer II with a strong motorsports focus to support mechanical system design and development. This role involves working on product and vehicle systems from early concept through detailed design, collaborating within a project team under the guidance of a design lead.The ideal candidate brings a hands-on engineering approach, combining CAD design, structural analysis (FEA), and system-level thinking to support innovative, performance-driven solutions. This position includes both office-based engineering work and occasional on-site support with customers and builds.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & EngineeringDevelop vehicle and product system designs from concept through productionPerform system physics modeling and component characterizationCreate 3D CAD models, assemblies, and packaging layoutsApply linear static FEA for design validation and optimizationGenerate detailed technical drawings and documentation (GD&T)Support test design, execution, and reporting (DVP&R)Provide regular project updates and technical presentationsProject & Customer SupportSupport engineering projects using mechanical, analytical, and CAE toolsTroubleshoot and resolve customer-related engineering issuesPrepare technical specifications and develop testing proceduresCollaborate with manufacturing, including ECR supportPresent findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholdersAssist in evaluating new business opportunitiesQualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive Engineering, or equivalentMinimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experiencePrior experience in motorsports (NASCAR strongly preferred)Technical SkillsProficiency in Siemens NX (or similar parametric 3D CAD tools)Experience with ANSYS (or equivalent FEA software)Understanding of full vehicle systems and subsystem interactionsExperience with mechanical design, including metals, composites, and toolingFamiliarity with PLM systems (e.g., Windchill) is a plusStrong knowledge of ASME Y14.5 (GD&T)Professional SkillsStrong communication and technical writing abilitiesDetail-oriented with high quality standardsTeam-oriented with a strong work ethic and sense of ownershipCurious mindset with a passion for learning and technologyWork Environment & ExpectationsThis role operates in a collaborative, team-based engineering environment with a mix of office and hands-on work. Engineers should be comfortable supporting shop builds and working with basic hand tools when needed.Core hours are typically 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with flexibility required to meet project deadlines. Occasional travel may be required for customer meetings, supplier visits, or off-site testing.
