Design Engineer III

POSITION SUMMARY The Design Engineer will generate detailed models, drawings, and a variety of technical documentation while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure product designs are in accordance with program requirements, industry standards, and customer specifications. A strong Design Engineer contributes to the development of mechanical, electromechanical, structures, and weapons systems of Fulcrum products by applying sound engineering principles, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of aerospace materials and processes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Design Engineering | 100% Core Competency: Technical Skills

• Design and develop, or assist with the design and development of mechanical, electromechanical, structures, and weapons systems in the form of new products, components, advanced prototypes, promotional products, or maintenance and improvements of mature designs.

• Investigate pertinent design factors such as interchangeability, replaceability, maintenance, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.

• Apply design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) principles to product and component design solutions.

• Create a product’s technical data package (TDP) for all detail design, subassemblies, and final assemblies (modeling, drafting, checking drawings).

• Assist and/or evaluate and provide engineering dispositions to non-conformance reports. Core Competency: Communication

• Clearly and effectively communicate complex, technical designs in external and interdepartmental meetings, or assist with development of said data.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

• Ability to operate in a clerical setting, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.

• Ability to work in a warehouse and/or manufacturing environment, which may include varying temperatures and noise levels.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in any Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college or university, and three to eight (3-8) years of professional engineering test experience OR a minimum of ten (10) years of professional testing experience without degree.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Knowledge of aerospace fabrication practices, tolerances, and design standards as it pertains to machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly.

• Knowledge of aerospace surface treatments and metallurgy.

• Knowledge of aerospace drafting standards and tolerance stack-up analysis.

• Experience with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD).

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT

• Subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. A SECRET, TS, or TS/SCI clearance may be required.
