Position Overview

Woolpert is hiring a Design Engineer in Training to join our dynamic Water Team at our Houston, Texas office. This position is primarily responsible for assisting with technical delivery on projects. This position is key in establishing and improving levels of team technical competence, quality and efficiency. This position will be part of a team engaging clients across the Water markets in Texas and Nationwide in support of client objectives in the areas of Water Resources Design, Drainage Design, Utilities Design, Site Civil Design, Data Analytics, Organizational Performance, Process Improvement, and related studies and analyses. This position will perform other duties as assigned.

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.  Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.

What You Will Do:

  • Work under direction of a PE and support Project Managers/Project Engineers in performing design work, preparing reports, conducting field work, and contributing to the project management tasks related to stormwater design, water distribution, sanitary collection, and land development/site design.
  • Use CAD Civil3D to create and/or aid in designs, to prepare technical plans, specifications, and cost estimates, ensuring precision and adherence to project requirements as well as improving your understanding of project budgeting and financial implications. Assist PMs with schedules, scopes, and budgets.
  • Able to perform design related calculations and read able to design plans.
  • Able to identify issues and develop creative solutions. Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders and expected to present your work; Prepare meeting minutes.
  • Understand local and state regulations across Texas, Pennsylvania, and Virginia related to design procedures. Expected to follow these guidelines and ensure the designs adhere to these standards and regulations.
  • Provide quality control reviews on designs and reports.
  • Actively participate in firm-wide quality initiatives, helping to implement and uphold high standards across all projects, which will improve your knowledge of best practices in quality control.
  • Depending on project needs, you may assume a sub-project manager role in complex projects, coordinating specific segments of the project and gaining early leadership and project management experience.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program. 
  • An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certification exam
  • Minimum 4 to 6 years of experience. 6 to 8 years preferred.
  • Experience with Civil 3D is required
  • Eagerness / able to pass and obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license within 2-years of accepting job.

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
