Job Description

Position Overview

GD Resources LLC is seeking a qualified Diagnostic Medical Physicist to provide imaging quality assurance and radiation safety evaluations for medical imaging systems at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. The physicist will ensure imaging equipment operates safely and effectively while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory and VA standards for diagnostic imaging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform evaluations and quality assurance testing on medical imaging systems including:

    • CT (Computed Tomography) units

    • Gamma cameras

    • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) systems

    • Radiography and fluoroscopy rooms

    • C-arms

    • Portable x-ray units

    • Fixed specialty imaging systems

    • Computed Radiography (CR) readers

  • Utilize appropriate radiation measuring devices and phantoms to assess equipment performance and safety.

  • Conduct annual inspections and quality assurance examinations for all imaging equipment.

  • Prepare and submit detailed written reports for each device, including:

    • Device identification and serial numbers

    • Functional performance parameters

    • Compliance findings and recommendations

  • Develop Entrance Exposure Charts plotting patient thickness against KVP (50–120 KVP).

  • Review CT dose optimization and CT protocol documentation to ensure appropriate balance between image quality and patient radiation exposure.

  • Conduct equipment evaluations prior to first clinical use following repairs, installations, or relocations.

  • Perform evaluations following major equipment service events such as:

    • Tube changes

    • Collimator repairs

    • Detector replacements

    • Generator repairs

Qualifications

  • Certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Diagnostic Medical Physics or Medical Nuclear Physics.

  • Demonstrated experience performing medical imaging quality assurance and radiation safety evaluations.

  • Strong knowledge of diagnostic imaging systems, radiation measurement equipment, and QA protocols.

  • Ability to prepare clear technical reports and documentation.

Services will be performed onsite at:G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center1500 E Woodrow Wilson AveJackson, MS

Schedule

Work will be performed during normal business hours (Monday–Friday) in coordination with the facility’s Radiation Safety Officer and Biomedical Engineering department.
