WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-Time / 40 hours per week

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Advanced imaging and diagnostic services in North Seattle. Radiology at UWMC-Northwest is equipped with the advanced diagnostic imaging technology available. Our board-certified radiologists have specialty training in cardiac imaging, neuroimaging, musculoskeletal, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and body and breast imaging. Along with our team of expert imaging technologists, they are committed to diagnosing illnesses and injuries quickly and effectively so treatment can begin. We take time and attention with each patient to explain procedures, so they’ll know what to expect every step of the way. Radiology Services at UW Medical Center- Northwest offers routine radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

Under the direction of a radiologist, the Ultrasonographer performs diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations accurately, independently, and efficiently.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepares patient and independently performs Ultrasound exams & procedures, including abdomen, OB/GYN, small parts, and intra-operative

- Assists Radiologist with invasive procedures, and vascular exams, utilizes 2-D, real time, M-Mode, Pulsed Doppler, and color flow to maximize diagnostic information

- Evaluates and assesses the patient's condition based upon information from the referring physician, medical records, and patient interview; selects appropriate instrumentation for the exam

- Assists physicians with special, interventional radiological procedures, performs portable procedures including bedside, operating room, emergency room and other areas outside the Ultrasound suite

- Transfers and positions patient safely and properly for examination, observes and monitors patient’s condition and reactions to exam

- Produces technically acceptable Ultrasound exams in accordance with departmental procedures, selects proper technical factors, reviews and evaluates Ultrasound images to determine that they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes and assesses need for further views

- Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies

- Prepares preliminary diagnosis / report for radiologist, including anatomic and physiological data and diagnostic observations, accurately inputs exam orders, patient data, patient charges, and prepares reports

- Answers phones; assists in other areas, such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport

- Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready, inventories supplies and linens, restocks rooms as needed

- Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc

- Coordinates equipment repairs and troubleshoots supply problems

REQUIREMENTS

Completion of diagnostic ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)

AND Registered in abdominal and obstetrical ultrasound OR experience equivalent to criteria for eligibility for registration in abdominal and obstetrical ultrasound by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
