Our Miller Truck Leasing division is immediately hiring for an experienced Diesel Maintenance Trainer in Albany, NY though has the ability to live within the territory primarily in the southern MA or upstate NY areas. The Diesel Maintenance Trainer will lead hands-on technical instruction, and safety compliance training for all new hire diesel mechanics across our regional truck maintenance operations. This role ensures that new technicians master heavy-duty tractor and trailer maintenance, electronic diagnostics, and shop safety protocols according to company and regulatory standards.

With over 100 years of experience and upwards of 8,000 trucks on the road, Miller currently operates over 40 Diesel Maintenance shops throughout KY, MD, PA, NJ, NY, CT, MA, and NH. Requirements

You Will:

Training & Onboarding Delivery:

  • Conducts new hire orientation and technical skills training for incoming diesel mechanics focusing on heavy truck tractors and trailers.
  • Teaches preventative maintenance (PM) checks, ensuring standard procedures are followed for engines, air brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems.
  • Demonstrates electronic diagnostic tools and software to effectively troubleshoot complex issues on commercial trucks.
  • Instructs technicians on proper documentation within company maintenance management software and work-order systems.

Compliance & Pre-Certification:

  • Evaluates new hire competencies and manages pre-certification processes for specialized repair and maintenance areas required by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Enforces safety protocols, educating new hires on shop safety, hazard recognition, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and shop tools.
  • Maintains precise training records, tracking trainee progress from onboarding to full shop readiness.

You Have:

  • Minimum 5-10 years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks (Class 8 tractors) and trailers. Prior technical training or instructional experience is strongly preferred.
  • Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications (Diesel Engine, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems) highly preferred.
  • Knowledge: Superior grasp of commercial vehicle diagnostics, electronic scanning tools, air brake systems, and DPF/aftertreatment systems.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and DOT inspection standards.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication, patience, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to beginner and intermediate mechanics.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the region for trainings as needed.
