Heavy-Duty Diesel Truck Technician
Location: Portage, INCompany: Interstate Power Systems
Interstate Power Systems is looking for an experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Truck Technician to join our growing team in Portage, Indiana. If you're a skilled diesel mechanic who enjoys diagnosing complex issues, performing high-quality repairs, and taking pride in your workmanship, we'd like to talk with you.
We're seeking a technician with 5+ years of heavy-duty diesel repair experience. Experience working on emergency vehicles, fire apparatus, ambulances, or municipal fleets is a strong plus, but not required.
As a Diesel Technician, you'll work on a wide variety of heavy-duty trucks and equipment while utilizing industry-leading diagnostic tools and OEM resources to keep customers operating safely and efficiently. This posting is modeled after existing Interstate Power Systems diesel technician openings.
What You'll Do
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, drivetrains, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and HVAC systems
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using advanced diagnostic software and tools
- Perform preventive maintenance and DOT inspections
- Complete engine, transmission, and aftertreatment repairs
- Conduct thorough inspections and identify needed repairs
- Accurately document repair work, recommendations, and parts usage
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Collaborate with service advisors, parts personnel, and fellow technicians to ensure customer satisfaction
- Participate in ongoing OEM and technical training programs
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Heavy-Duty Diesel Technician, Diesel Mechanic, or Truck Technician
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, emissions systems, and drivetrains
- Ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Freightliner, Western Star, Detroit Diesel, Cummins, Allison Transmission, or similar products
- ASE Certifications or OEM certifications
- CDL Class A or B
- Experience servicing emergency vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, municipal fleets, or specialty equipment
- Technical school or vocational diesel training
