The Director will also provide strategic direction for the College's website and broader digital ecosystem, including serving as a backup content publisher as needed. The Director will supervise and collaborate closely with the Digital Associate, who manages day-to-day web updates and vendor relationships.

The ideal candidate is a sharp writer and editor, fluent in the social landscape, who brings excellent judgment, a passion for women's education, and the ability to translate College priorities into compelling digital content. This candidate should have extensive social media experience, and a track record of building engagement and growing followers.

Job Description:

  • Own and maintain the social media editorial calendar, coordinating content around major College moments (announcements, events, campaigns).

  • Work closely with the editorial team to ensure content reflects Barnard's strategic messaging, values, and tone.

  • Ensure that content advances Barnard's mission and centers the College's identity as the best women's college in the world.

  • Provide strategic direction for the College's website and broader digital ecosystem, working closely with the Digital Associate and relevant vendors, and serving as a backup content publisher as needed.

  • Partner across the College on digital storytelling and campaigns with shared priorities.

  • Track and analyze performance across social platforms and priority web content using analytics tools, producing regular reporting and insights to help guide communications priorities.

  • Other tasks and responsibilities as necessary. The role requires occasional evening and weekend work for event coverage.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required.

  • Professional Experience: 6-8 years of experience in digital communications, social media strategy, or content marketing.

  • A proven track record of owning, executing, and growing high-profile brand accounts.

  • A minimum of 2 years of direct experience supervising staff, with a focus on mentoring and managing workflows.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex College priorities into punchy, platform-native copy.

  • Strong familiarity with analytics suites.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive communications and maintain a consistent brand voice in a high-visibility environment.

This job is currently a hybrid position and may require a presence in the office up to five times a week, including for team and full staff meetings and other times as directed by the supervisor.

Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000 annually
