Job Description
SUMMARY
Mitsubishi Power Americas is a major power generation equipment and storage solutions provider for the energy industry. Our products include advanced class gas turbines, hydrogen gas turbines, lithium ion and flow battery technologies, digital solutions, and renewable energy project development.The Structural Designer is responsible for independently developing and coordinating structural drawings and 3D models for large industrial Gas Turbine power projects.This position works closely with Structural Engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to translate engineering intent into accurate, constructible designs using Tekla Structures and SmartPLANT 3D, while supporting project execution, quality, and schedule objectives.2.0ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D structural model using Tekla and SmartPLANT 3D with minimal supervision.
- Perform structural 3D modeling for:
- Structural steel frames
- Equipment support structures
- Access platforms, ladders, and stairs
- Module support frames and foundations (as applicable)
- Generate structural drawings including:
- General arrangement drawings
- Steel framing layouts
- Connection and detailing drawings
- Material takes-offs
- Coordinate closely with piping, equipment, electrical, and civil teams to resolve clashes and ensure proper clearances, access, and constructability
- Support module based design, including transport, lifting, and erection considerations
- Participate in model reviews (30%, 60%, 90%) and support clash detection and resolution
- Ensure structural models comply with:
- Project specifications
- Applicable codes and standards (AICS, AWS, and IBC)
- Maintain accurate model data and incorporate engineering changes in a timely manner
- Support fabrication and construction needs by providing clear, accurate, and constructible models and drawings
- Deliver design outputs in accordance with project schedules and milestones
- OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support continuous improvement of structural modeling workflows, Tekla templates, and SmartPLANT 3D integration
- Assist in development and enforcement of structural modeling standards and best practices
- Collaborate with global and regional engineering teams, including external partners and vendors
- Always protect confidential and proprietary company information
- Effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast paced project environment
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION
- Education and/or Experience:Associate degree or Technical Diploma in Drafting, Structural Design, or a related technical field (preferred), with a minimum of 5 7 years of experience as a Structural Designer or Drafter in industrial or power plant structural design and modeling, including demonstrated experience supporting gas turbine, power plant, or heavy industrial projects.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Tekla Structures for structural steel modeling and detailing is required, along with working experience in SmartPLANT 3D (S3D) for multi discipline plant coordination. The candidate should have a solid understanding of industrial structural steel systems, equipment support and module framing, and constructability and erection sequencing, as well as familiarity with applicable structural and industrial standards such as AISC, AWS, IBC and project specific specifications. The ability to interpret engineering calculations, design criteria, and vendor information is also essential.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, effective communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project deadlines are essential.
