Job Description

Be Part of Someone's Everyday Life

The Arc of Ocean County is looking for dependable, compassionate Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide part-time support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential settings in Brick Township and Toms River.

As a DSP, you'll be there for the everyday moments that help make a house a home—from preparing meals and supporting personal care to helping someone get ready for an outing, practice a new skill, or make choices about their day. Your support can help individuals maintain their independence, participate in their communities, and enjoy a meaningful life in their home.

No previous DSP experience is required. Paid on-the-job training is provided.

Position Details

Available Shifts:

  • Evening: 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
  • Overnight: 11:00 PM–9:00 AM
  • Weekend Day & Evening Shifts
  • Weekend availability is required

What You'll Do

Support Daily Residential Life

  • Assist individuals with personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, housekeeping, laundry, and other daily routines.
  • Help individuals practice everyday skills, make choices, and build greater independence.
  • Contribute to a clean, comfortable, organized, and welcoming home environment.

Make Community Participation Possible

  • Accompany and support individuals during appointments, shopping trips, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and other community outings.
  • Encourage opportunities for social connection and meaningful participation in the community.
  • Safely transport individuals in agency vehicles when assigned.

Provide Individualized Support

  • Tailor your assistance to each individual's goals, abilities, and specific support needs.
  • Respond to medical, behavioral, and emotional challenges in a patient, professional, and respectful manner.
  • Protect and promote each individual's dignity, privacy, and rights.

Communicate & Work as a Team

  • Complete electronic documentation accurately, including daily progress notes, medication records, and other required program records.
  • Share important information with coworkers, supervisors, families, healthcare professionals, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Follow agency policies and residential procedures to help maintain consistent, quality services and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing with no more than five (5) points.
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of the position, including assisting individuals with mobility and completing household tasks as needed.
  • Demonstrated employment stability preferred, including at least one (1) year with a previous employer preferred.

Start With Training & Build Your Experience

You don't need previous DSP experience to get started. The Arc of Ocean County provides paid on-the-job training to help you develop the skills needed for residential support.
