Job Purpose

BWH Hotels is seeking an experienced Director, Portfolio Management, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, to drive the planning, prioritization, and financial discipline that connect work across the technology organization. This role brings structure and rhythm to how product and platform teams plan, sequence, and fund their work — turning strategy into a connected, dependency-aware roadmap and executable plans.

Operating as chief of staff to the CTO, the Director leads the organization’s planning events and structured planning processes, owns the annual budgeting process across product teams and strategic projects, and facilitates executive committee sessions to align priorities and evaluate trade-offs. The role leads primarily through influence — orchestrating teams, decisions, and communications across a matrixed technology organization.

Key Responsibilities

Connected Roadmap & Portfolio Orchestration

  • Drive the process across product and platform teams to organize a connected roadmap that recognizes timeframes and dependencies.
  • Establish and run portfolio intake, prioritization, and sequencing so investment aligns to the highest-value outcomes.
  • Make cross-team dependencies, risks, and constraints visible, and coordinate their resolution.
  • Align capacity and resources across teams to the committed roadmap.

Planning Events & Structured Planning

  • Organize planning events and lead teams through structured planning processes on a consistent cadence.
  • Develop detailed quarterly plans and broader multi-year strategies, with clear objectives, milestones, and commitments.
  • Establish the operating rhythm for planning and roadmap reviews (e.g., quarterly planning, business reviews).
  • Translate strategy into actionable, sequenced plans and track progress against them.

Annual Budgeting & Investment Management

  • Lead the annual budgeting process across product teams and strategic projects.
  • Partner with Finance and technology leaders to build, consolidate, and defend budgets aligned to strategy.
  • Track budget versus actuals and forecast, and surface variances and reallocation options.
  • Support investment and trade-off decisions with clear cost, value, and capacity analysis.

Executive Alignment & Governance

  • Lead executive committee meetings to align strategic priorities and evaluate trade-off options.
  • Establish and run portfolio governance forums and decision-making cadences.
  • Provide executive-ready reporting and dashboards on portfolio health, progress, risks, and financials.
  • Ensure decisions are documented, communicated, and followed through to closure.

Chief of Staff to the CTO

  • Operate as chief of staff to the CTO — managing the operating rhythm, priorities, and follow-through of the technology leadership team.
  • Prepare and review strategic communications, board and executive materials, and presentations on behalf of the CTO.
  • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives and serve as a trusted liaison between the CTO, internal teams, and key stakeholders.
  • Lead special projects and manage competing priorities on behalf of the CTO.

Process Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish and mature portfolio and program management standards, tools, and delivery disciplines.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and streamline planning, reporting, and governance processes.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across teams.

Success Metrics

  • Planning Predictability: Teams plan and deliver against clear quarterly and multi-year commitments.
  • Roadmap Connectedness: Cross-team dependencies and timeframes are visible and actively managed.
  • Financial Discipline: Accurate budgets and reliable budget-versus-actual performance across the portfolio.
  • Decision Velocity & Quality: Timely, well-informed executive prioritization and trade-off decisions.
  • Operating Cadence: A consistent, well-run planning and governance rhythm.
  • Stakeholder Confidence: Executive and team confidence in portfolio transparency and follow-through.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Portfolio, program, and PMO leadership across complex, multi-team environments.
  • Strategic planning and facilitation, including structured planning events and multi-year roadmapping.
  • Financial and budget management, including annual planning and budget-versus-actual tracking.
  • Cross-functional influence and orchestration without direct authority.
  • Dependency, risk, and capacity management across teams.
  • Executive communication — synthesizing complex information into clear materials and recommendations.
  • Strong organizational skills, discretion, and diplomacy operating at the executive level.
  • Data-driven decision support and fluency with roadmap, planning, and reporting tools.

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in portfolio or program management, technology strategy, PMO leadership, or technology operations, including leading planning and budgeting processes.
  • Experience serving as a chief of staff or senior advisor to a technology or business executive is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success building connected roadmaps and leading structured planning across multiple teams.
  • Experience owning or leading an annual technology budgeting process.
  • Strong command of product operating models, program/portfolio management methods, and planning and roadmap tooling.
  • Exceptional executive communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Background in hospitality, travel, retail, or enterprise technology preferred.

Supervisory & Management Responsibilities

  • Leads a portfolio management / PMO team, as applicable, and leads product and platform teams through influence in planning and governance.
  • Provides input to — and/or makes — hiring, performance, and development decisions.
  • Directs cross-functional planning, budgeting, and delivery coordination through the technology operating model.

Work Location & Schedule

  • This is a hybrid position, requiring onsite presence Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at our Global Operations Center, with the option to work remote on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This hybrid model fosters intentional collaboration, teamwork, connection, and productivity, while still providing flexibility and work life balance. The office address is 20400 N 29th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85027.
