Job Description

Position Summary

The Director, Enterprise Clinical Strategy serves as a pivotal leadership position responsible for architecting Cigna's long‑term clinical vision and translating it into actionable enterprise strategies that accelerate strategic priorities across the organization. This role operates at a high level of complexity, requiring the integration of market intelligence, regulatory shifts, emerging care models, and internal performance data to shape a cohesive enterprise roadmap that drives affordability, quality, and growth in alignment with Cigna's clinical strategy.

The Director will work with clinical leadership and key partners to facilitate annual strategic portfolio decisions for clinical, ensuring alignment, clarity, disciplined prioritization, and data‑driven decision-making. The role ensures clinical priorities are strategically embedded across our business units and enterprise operations and analytics functions. Success requires balancing near‑term execution with long‑range transformation, aligning diverse stakeholders, and steering the organization toward innovative, evidence‑based models that strengthen Cigna's competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead intelligence and due diligence activities to support strategic decision-making, including competitive landscape assessments, market sizing, customer segmentation, and identification of emerging trends and disruptors in the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Lead annual strategic planning cycles for clinical strategy and contribute to enterprise- and organization-wide strategy development, ensuring alignment with P&L targets, affordability imperatives, and growth objectives.
  • Engage matrix partners to socialize and build support for clinical initiatives, articulating the value and impact of enterprise clinical programs.
  • Drive rapid-turnaround development of executive deliverables, ensuring data accuracy, strategic alignment, and effective storytelling under tight timelines.
  • Create and iterate on high-impact presentations, analyses, and briefing documents for C‑suite and enterprise committees, distilling ambiguity into structured, decision-ready outputs.
  • Ensure seamless operational activation of strategic plans, translating high‑level direction into executable workflows and clear ownership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in healthcare strategy, ideally including work in top-tier consulting or payer/provider strategy roles.
  • Minimum of 4 years in a clinical setting (e.g., hospital, outpatient clinic, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical strategy, provider engagement, and healthcare innovation.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and executive communication skills.
  • Extensive experience developing executive- and board-level presentations.
  • Proven ability to deliver creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with business case development.
  • Experience working effectively in a matrixed organization with strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, actionable insights.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a top-tier strategy consulting firm or corporate strategy function within a leading healthcare organization.
  • Experience in payer, health plan, or integrated delivery system environments.
  • Familiarity with clinical care delivery, population health strategies, and evolving market dynamics in the healthcare ecosystem.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 167,700 - 279,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
