Location of Position

While remote candidates will be considered, it is preferred that this role be based in the NYC metro area with a commitment to a minimum of 2 in-office days.

Position Summary

The Director, Development will be a player/coach role responsible for managing a team of development professionals and for developing select projects within CleanCapital's pipeline of solar and energy storage projects. This role will report to the Head of Development. The candidate is expected to have solar and/or energy storage development project experience. The Director, Development is expected to complete complex tasks independently, with minimal oversight and input from their supervisor. This position will work across disciplines, supporting our acquisitions, investments, capital markets, business development, and asset management groups. This position will support a vital growth of GW/GWh of new renewable energy projects.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead full life cycle development of solar and storage projects, from greenfield inception to NTP

  • Manage a team of development professionals and ensure projects are completed on time/budget

  • Serve as the day-to-day liaison with partners on routine project and partnership needs

  • Communicate, coordinate and manage relevant project parties internally and externally

  • Initiate and manage new project diligence and across the company verticals, including legal, interconnection, finance, engineering, environmental, permitting, commercial, policy, investment/revenue; as well as supporting these reviews

  • Work collaboratively across verticals to evaluate and improve project development, management processes and associated resources while maintaining positive partner relationships

  • Manage project development schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of solar and storage development projects

  • Position requires occasional travel about 10% of the time

Education Requirements

  • BSc/BA in engineering, building science or relevant field

  • PMP, MBA, advanced degree or equivalent certification/experience is a plus

Technical Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in renewable energy development, with a proven track record of taking projects from site control to NTP

  • Experience with solar energy, battery storage, and related technologies

  • Utility storage development experience is a plus

  • Proven project and people management skills

  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Excel modeling skills a plus

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take ideas and run with them from concept to conclusion

  • Technical understanding of project development clean energy business processes

  • Exceptional verbal and writing communication skills with superiors, peers, partners, and other stakeholders

  • Excellent interpersonal skills while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment

  • Excellence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
