Director, Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program (PBPM)
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program oversees all aspects of the administration and management of Goucher College's Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program. Key responsibilities of the role include developing and executing a comprehensive enrollment plan, selecting and recruiting a diverse and talented cohort, providing comprehensive advising and support to post-bacs, managing the budget, presenting workshops for post-bacs, developing and managing linkages with top-tier medical schools across the nation, maintaining relationships with alumni/ae, and guiding the admission of post-bacs into medical school. The incoming Director will bring a vision for expansion and lead growth of the program through best practices, intentional data analysis, and collaboration with faculty partners. The Director reports to the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Dean of the Faculty and directly supervises the Assistant Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program & Undergraduate Prehealth Advising, the Teaching Assistant, and a Program Assistant, to be hired at a later date.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
The primary duties of the Director of Post-Baccalaureate Premedical are as follows:
- Advise and counsel post-bacs in both group and individual settings on their academic work, personal issues, medical volunteering, glide year jobs, linkage, and the medical school application process (including AMCAS, secondaries, interviews, correspondence with med schools, final decisions)
- Assess and evaluate potential program growth, relying on relevant data, best practices, and faculty expertise
- Develop and implement a multi-year enrollment plan with annual cohort targets, conversion benchmarks, and net revenue goals, design and execute a multi-channel recruitment strategy, and manage the full enrollment funnel from inquiry through deposit using tools to track engagement, model yield, and identify tactical opportunities.
- Spearhead program expansion efforts that maintain PBPM's outstanding reputation and academic standards
- Plan and conduct events for post-bacs (speakers, panels, trainings, and workshops on application process) as well as major PostBac events (orientation, welcome celebration, holiday party, social hours, final celebration)
- Coordinate and write the Premedical Committee Letter for applicants
- Supervise any updates to PostBacCAS prior to its annual August launch; write, edit, and update all applicant correspondence in PostBacCAS
- Interview screened applicants (shared with assistant director) and supervise interview day/accepted applicant day experiences
- Maintain and develop partnerships with medical school admissions leadership to strengthen our ability to advocate for post-bac applicants, to maintain current linkage agreements, and to increase linkage opportunities as appropriate
- Ensure compliance with College policies and maintain collegial and open communication with other College offices that interface with the PBPM
- Represent the PBPM regionally and nationally via conferences, networking, and professional development
- Develop and innovate ways to strengthen alumni/ae relations
- Monitor and report program budget and expenditures as well as donor-established endowments
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS
The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree, at least five years of progressive leadership in academic advising and/or program management, and knowledge of medical school admissions.
Preferred qualifications include a master's or terminal degree, experience with program expansion, and prior prehealth advising.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

For over forty years, the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program (PBPM) at Goucher is widely acknowledged as one of the most elite programs of its kind nationwide. A highly selective, intensive one-year program designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree in a non-science field, the cohort of 34 comes from a wide array of professional backgrounds. Starting each June, the PBPM provides the medical school prerequisite coursework in classes solely for post-bacs and prepares them to excel on the MCAT, while dedicating protected time each week to deepen their clinical experience in medical settings. The PBPM's reputation for nurturing a collaborative and close-knit community is balanced by its academic excellence, with a 99% medical-school acceptance rate over the past 15 years and a median 98th percentile on the MCAT.
