Inventory Control Director
Department: Inventory Control
Reports to: Senior Director - Assistant Controller
Supervises: Yes
Location: Hybrid; Lynchburg, VA or Asheville, NC
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
General Summary
The Inventory Control Director leads the Inventory Control function and team to ensure inventory accuracy, operational integrity, and alignment with organizational standards. This role oversees daily inventory analysis, reconciliation processes, inventory movement accuracy, and development of inventory control procedures. The Director will mentor and guide inventory personnel while collaborating cross‑functionally with Distribution Center leadership, IT, Merchandising, Planning, and other business partners.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Oversee and prioritize the department's daily workload, establishing project timelines and coordinating shared responsibilities with the Asheville Inventory Control team.
- Serve as the primary communication link with DC & store operations, IT, marketing, planning, distribution, merchandising, and production on all inventory-related matters.
- Ensure variances between WMS and SAP are reconciled daily, incorporating partner communications and business updates into the reconciliation process.
- Identify, research, and communicate MAO, WMS and SAP issues with IT and Inventory Control partners.
- Help investigate inventory discrepancies; support Accounts Payable research; communicate transmission or programming issues to IT; and initiate corrections when required.
- Develop, maintain, and distribute key reporting, including Physical Inventory Shrink, liquidation/wholesale movement reporting, audits, and other analytical summaries.
- Lead the execution of the annual physical inventory at selected DC's and stores, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely completion.
- Support internal and external audit processes, ensuring compliance with inventory and financial control guidelines.
- Identify, coach, develop, and promote associates and supervisors with leadership potential.
- Assist with special projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum ten years of progressive experience in inventory control, distribution, or related operational disciplines.
- Strong critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Manhattan, WMS systems, and SAP strongly preferred.
- Experience within a retail distribution center environment, thorough understanding of distribution operations and merchandise flow.
