Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking temporary professional/technical personnel to support the Client's Construction & Development (C&D) Safety Oversight in planning, developing, and administering comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety training programs. This role is based in New York, NY, a vibrant city known for its iconic landmarks, diverse culture, and dynamic opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Represent the Senior Director of Safety in day-to-day operations.
- Evaluate safety training programs to ensure continuous implementation, effectiveness, and compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Manage technical and process-related programs and tools to address education and training needs.
- Lead safety-related initiatives and programs to enhance the organization's safety culture.
- Prepare occupational health and safety performance data for safety training programs and leadership review.
- Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.
- Develop, update, and deliver Occupational Health and Safety training programs to internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in high-risk work scopes, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation procedures are in place.
- Conduct periodic audits of construction sites to identify unsafe hazards or conditions.
- Analyze and track measures to reduce hazards to acceptable levels.
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, Education/Adult Learning, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of seven years of related safety experience in construction, including at least four years in a training or supervisory role; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Proven experience in training administration, curriculum design and development, assessment of training methodologies, classroom instruction, and delivery of safety training programs.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, particularly Code 29 of Federal Regulations 1926 Subpart C – Training and Education, and general construction safety principles.
- Experience with or knowledge of EPA laws and policies; Public Employees Safety & Health (PESH) state laws and policies; and related federal, state, and local regulations concerning asbestos, lead, noise, airborne hazards, and other safety-related issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PeopleSoft, Oracle, and Windows; experience with Adobe Captivate preferred or ability to learn.
- 30-Hour OSHA Certification (Construction Industry).
- OSHA 500 Authorized Outreach Trainer Certification.
- Must pass a one-day NYC Transit Track Safety, Metro-North Railroad, and/or Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Roadway Worker Protection course prior to performing any work on or near tracks or wayside.
- Must obtain work safety boots that meet Client C&D specifications.
Special Skills & Training (Preferred)
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (within one year of hire date).
- Background in Transportation, Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or Construction Safety.
- HAZWOPER certification.
- Experience with health and safety management systems.
- Knowledge of New York State Construction Codes and/or construction safety practices.
- Industry-recognized certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Industrial Hygienist Technician (IHT).
- Indoor environmental or air quality credentials such as Council-Certified Environmental Consultant (CIEC) or Council-Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional (CIAQP).
- Asbestos and Lead Certifications.
- Strong business administrative skills, including presentations, report writing, and time management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent team-building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
Work Schedule
- Normal Work Week: Monday – Friday
- Paid Hours Per Week: 40 hours
- Hours of Work: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
