Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President, Risk Management, the Director, Risk Management will be responsible for assisting the Vice President, Risk Management in implementing and maintaining PFG's risk management program, including the administration of the property and casualty insurance programs, Executive Risk Insurance programs and oversight of PFG's captive insurance company. The Director will also coordinate claim activities and oversee the Third Party Administrator's managing PFG's insured claims. The Director, Risk Management manages the Loss Control program that aims to mitigate risk across the enterprise. This position drives resolution to manage risk; understands legal and regulatory changes; provides change management and implements processes and methodologies for tracking risk initiatives across the company.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the Vice President in negotiating and renewing insurance policies for various lines of coverage, with the objective of minimizing the total cost of the insurance program. This strategy will include determining optimal risk retention levels, aggregates and limits of insurance. This position reviews and analyzes company practices and liability experience towards developing policies, practices, training and programs designed to reduce or eliminate costs relating to global Property claims, US Workers Compensation claims and Auto Liability claims.
  • This role is the primary department contact to work with operations, accounting and FP&A to gather exposure data for all insurance renewals.
  • This role is the lead and primary department contact to facilitate the review of contracts. Supports the Law Department and Operations to ensure contract reviews and insurance language protects the Company from unnecessary risk and liability.
  • At the direction of the VP, Risk Management, provides insurance and risk management guidance to and partners with Presidents, General Managers, Transportation Managers, Safety Managers, insurance broker(s), HR, Legal, Accounting, FP&A, DOT compliance and other departments to ensure alignment, understanding and execution of company policy.
  • Collaborates with all operating company (OpCo) management to evaluate risk metrics and develop strategies for increased success.
  • This role is the liaison with the M&A team on all risk management related items, from diligence through integration.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be located in Richmond, VA or willing to relocate to Richmond
  • Bachelor's in business finance or closely related discipline or equivalent work related experience
  • 10+ years' experience in risk management with an insurance broker and/or large public company
  • 5+ years' experience in risk/insurance/compliance with management/supervisory and leadership experience
  • Strong business acumen and interpersonal skills to work across business lines at senior leadership levels to influence and affect change to achieve common goals.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading enterprise-wide initiatives in large complex and dynamic environment
  • Experience in property and casualty data gathering and analytics. Experience in supporting accrual projections for auditable insurance programs to support accounting and FP&A teams.
  • Experience in leading acquisition due diligence/integration
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management and field personnel.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to make recommendations and follow through to completion.
  • Ability to partner with and influence others to action.
  • Ability to assess program effectiveness and determine alternate course of action if needed.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex issues and recommend solutions
  • Strong experience working in a matrixed, decentralized environment; proven experience working with senior management, including top-level executives
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, Insurance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10 + Years in risk management experience in the food distribution and/or transportation industry
  • Associate in Risk Management Designation (ARM), Insurance Institute
  • Certified Risk Manager (CRM)
  • Charter Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
  • Experience evaluating and managing vendor services related to insurance and compliance.
