Hourly Pay Range (Minimum- Midpoint- Maximum):

$79.420 - $102.480 - $125.540

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant's years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

As a leader for key strategic initiatives, both within and outside of traditional health care settings, the Director of Business and Strategic Initiatives works in cooperation with the Strategy team to identify business opportunities, evaluate, develop, analyze and execute business transactions, and implement key innovation, growth, and strategic priorities at Sharp HealthCare. The Director is responsible for the purchase, sale, development, and restructure of health-related businesses and real estate and the formation of partnership arrangements involving physicians, healthcare, or innovation partners, including transaction structure (e.g., partnership, acquisition, joint venture, etc.), negotiations, due diligence, and agreements. This role will be responsible for preparation of business plans, feasibility studies, risk assessments, financial pro formas, valuations, organizational assessments, and Board memorandums.

The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Innovation program at Sharp HealthCare, which includes development and oversight of the innovation intake process for internally developed innovations, active engagement and oversight of innovation partnership portfolio and alternative investments, managing and developing staff, as well as working cross-functionally with strategy, clinical, operations, legal, human resources, and finance to ensure the Innovation program is in alignment with Sharp HealthCare's strategic priorities, mission, and non-profit status. Specific emphasis will be on the intersection of technology, data, and digital care systems to identify and operationalize opportunities for Sharp HealthCare to serve as early adopters or co-development partners in emerging innovation products and/or services. This role will also explore alternative models and strategic relationships for care delivery.

The leader is charged with effectively managing the Sharp Innovation program through technical and/or business initiatives focused on enhancing Sharp's position in the marketplace, by way of enhancing reputation locally, regionally, and nationally, generating and diversifying revenue through commercialization opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and developing intellectual property or patent strategy to be adopted across the enterprise.

This leader will be expected to act as the link between strategy, clinical, operational, and industry leaders in the consideration for potential business transactions and innovation products, services, or partnerships. The leader will partner closely with the SVP Chief Strategy Officer, VP Strategic Planning and Business Transactions, SVP Chief Information and Digital Officer, and various leaders throughout Sharp HealthCare to ensure the Innovation program provides centralized services for entrepreneurs across the enterprise and complements existing efforts in Research, Quality, and Business Development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related.
  • 5 Years experience in healthcare setting, with progressive responsibility for staff and program development.
  • Experience in strategic planning, contracts, business transactions, and policy development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or related.

Essential Functions

  • Identify and assess business opportunities, including strategic, growth, and innovation initiatives, and coordinate transaction execution through management of structure, negotiations, due diligence, and agreements with the goal of strengthening Sharp's financial and market position. Transactions may include the purchase, sale, development, and restructure of health-related businesses and real estate, and formation of partnership arrangements involving physicians, health care, or innovation partners.
  • Prepare business plans, feasibility studies, opportunity and risk assessments, financial pro formas, valuations, and organizational assessments. Develop management recommendations, implementation plans, and Board memorandums.
  • Define, shape, and execute against Sharp's Innovation strategy to achieve competitive advantage; translate broad ideas and opportunities into specific objectives and action plans in alignment with Sharp HealthCare's strategic plan.
  • Stay current with health care market, industry, and emerging trends, new reimbursement methodologies, State and National regulatory issues, and innovation activity, products, and delivery channels that may present strategic opportunities for business or innovation partners, development, or early-adoption.
  • Engage with industry peers and associations to identify and assess opportunities that fit into Sharp's core capabilities and strategic plan, provide care delivery innovations, and elevate the visibility and market presence, both regionally and nationally, of the Sharp HealthCare Innovation program.
  • Manage financial, staffing, and other resource needs as required to operate the Innovation program within approved budgetary guidelines.
  • Primary responsibility for success of the innovation and alternative investments portfolio, as measured by active industry partnerships, revenue and commercialization efforts, reputation, and market differentiation.
  • Oversee and direct multiple strategy, business, and innovation initiatives concurrently.
  • Deliver messages clearly, convincingly, and in a well-organized manner; able to vary communications style for multiple audiences; projects credibility and poise; translates complex concepts and ideas into understandable terms for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Manage change effectively including organizational, process, and service delivery changes. Successfully gain support for business-driven changes through effective and timely communication including rationale, scope, and schedule.
  • Manage the development of key business and functional capabilities, including managing the growth, motivation, and success of the team.
  • Establish strong internal and external relationships and partner with cross-functional leaders (strategy, business development, operations, physicians, information technology, legal, marketing, and finance) to develop a world class Innovation program and execute business transactions in alignment with Sharp HealthCare's strategic goals.
