Job Description

Horace Mann is seeking a strategic and innovative Director, Business Process Solutions to lead enterprise process improvement initiatives that drive operational excellence, customer experience, and business growth. This leadership role is responsible for partnering across the organization to identify opportunities, optimize operations, and implement scalable solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and organizational performance.

The ideal candidate combines strong operational leadership, process improvement expertise, analytical thinking, and the ability to influence across all levels of the organization. This role is instrumental in helping the organization continuously evolve to better serve customers, business partners, and employees.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Process Improvement

  • Support all levels of management in improving processes, procedures, and systems through the design, development, and deployment of innovative business solutions.
  • Interpret customer requirements and evaluate existing business processes to identify inefficiencies, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify and quantify the cost of poor quality, operational gaps, and process risks to drive customer retention and market growth.
  • Research, analyze, recommend, and implement operational improvements aligned with divisional and enterprise objectives.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Business Process Consultants, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear priorities and ensure alignment of team efforts with strategic business goals.
  • Build organizational capability in process improvement methodologies and operational excellence practices.

Project & Change Leadership

  • Execute disciplined project management practices to deliver nimble, scalable, and resilient solutions that improve customer experience and reduce operational cost.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify, scope, prioritize, and implement process improvement initiatives across operations and support functions.
  • Guide development of business cases, cost-benefit analyses (CBAs), solution mockups, and operational recommendations to support strategic decisions.
  • Ensure business requirements for process and system enhancements are clearly defined, actionable, and aligned with enterprise needs.

Operational Analytics & Performance Management

  • Establish forward-looking metrics and performance indicators that support timely decision-making and identify root causes of operational performance opportunities.
  • Utilize analytical tools, methodologies, and management practices to continuously optimize organizational processes and workflows.
  • Develop reporting and operational insights that support business leaders in achieving performance goals.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Oversee relationships with TPAs and operational vendors, ensuring service delivery aligns with contractual obligations and performance expectations.
  • Partner with procurement and business leaders on vendor selection, performance management, and optimization initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, product, compliance, technology, and leadership teams to drive enterprise alignment and execution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in business process improvement, operational excellence, or process consulting environments.
  • Strong experience leading cross-functional operational initiatives and change management efforts.
  • Familiarity with group insurance, supplemental benefits, or voluntary insurance products strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing business cases, operational metrics, and process improvement recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and drive measurable business outcomes.

Additional Information

  • Normal office environment with remote flexibility.

Pay Range:

       $105,200.00 - $147,950.00/annually 

Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
