POSITION SUMMARY
The Director, International Accounting & Tax Compliance is a senior leadership role responsible for the end-to-end financial management of the Company's global subsidiary network. Reporting directly to the VP, Global Controller, this individual will manage a first-class international accounting team located in India and other countries that supports the Company's worldwide operations. The role owns the integrity of financial reporting across all international entities, leads the statutory and management financial statement close process (targeting a 7 business day consolidated close), manages external auditors and tax advisors globally, and ensures full compliance with local and international tax obligations, including transfer pricing.
Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong leadership capabilities and a solid operational and technical accounting background. Working in a different time zone from the Company's US-based operations, this person works well independently while maintaining proactive, seamless coordination with HQ. They are equally comfortable thinking strategically and rolling up their sleeves to work in the details alongside their team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
International Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee monthly and quarterly close processes for all international subsidiaries managing team of local accountants preparing and recording necessary elimination entries and performing reconciliation of all intercompany balances.
- Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for all worldwide subsidiaries in accordance with applicable local GAAP.
- Maintain and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across the international entity structure.
- Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions including intercompany arrangements, foreign currency, consolidation eliminations, and business combinations.
- Coordinate with different teams including Payroll, Treasury and legal team to ,ensuring compliance with local payroll regulations.
Audit, Tax Compliance & Statutory Filing
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all external audit engagements across subsidiaries globally, coordinating with audit firms
- Support international in-country tax teams and local service providers to meet all international regulatory and tax compliance requirements, including VAT/GST, and maintain proper documentation for local country tax refunds and credits.
- Partner with local service providers to review and coordinate international statutory filings.
- Oversee the timely and accurate filing of all corporate tax returns, VAT/GST returns, and other statutory tax filings across all jurisdictions in which the Company operates.
- Support the VP, Global Controller and CFO with international tax planning strategies, including permanent establishment risk management, withholding tax optimization, and treaty analysis.
- Implement, and maintain a robust global transfer pricing framework consistent with Group and local country requirements.
- Manage transfer pricing audits and respond to tax authority inquiries in coordination with local advisors.
- Ensure compliance with local statutory requirements including annual report filings, corporate secretarial obligations, and director reporting duties.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing international accounting team based in India and other international countries fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Treasury, FP&A, Payroll, and HR teams to ensure the global finance function operates as an integrated whole.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required
- CPA or Chartered Accountant (CA) certification
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including 7+ years in a management role.
- Experience reviewing, preparing, and reconciling multi-currency, intercompany consolidation accounts.
- Experience working with international subsidiaries and transfer pricing.
- Comprehensive and current understanding of US GAAP and international accounting standards (IFRS or other local accounting standards), and multiple currency environments.
- Excellent computer and Excel skills, including advanced financial modeling and reconciliation capabilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively across the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; strong attention to detail.
Preferred
- Prior experience in an Employer of Record, PEO, staffing, or fintech/HR-tech company.
- Strong proficiency with ERP systems; Sage Intact, NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
- Experience managing a globally distributed accounting team across multiple time zones.
