Director of Brand & Communications

The Opportunity

You will lead high-impact communications, earned media, content, executive visibility, and experiential initiatives that position the organization as the clear leader in its category.

You’ll own how the brand shows up in the world: in the media, at events, through leadership voices, across digital channels, and in every public-facing touchpoint. This role is ideal for someone who understands how to translate mission into influence, build brand systems that scale, and communicate with authenticity to the Veteran community.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Brand Leadership

  • Own brand and communications strategy across PR, events, owned media, creative, content, and executive visibility

  • Build initiatives that strengthen authority, credibility, trust, and category leadership

  • Partner with executive leadership to align brand strategy with growth, reputation, and national expansion goals

Public Relations & Media Strategy

  • Lead earned media strategy, press placements, interviews, thought leadership, and executive visibility

  • Identify media opportunities tied to Veterans issues, policy, firm milestones, community impact, and national expansion

  • Serve as a senior authority on messaging, talking points, external communications, and reputation management

Events & Experiential Marketing

  • Oversee high-profile events, sponsorships, activations, and Veteran community engagements

  • Build event strategies that create meaningful brand proof points and deepen trust with Veterans and strategic partners

  • Lead the Events & PR function with disciplined planning, execution, measurement, and continuous improvement

Brand Governance & Creative Discipline

  • Act as the brand gatekeeper across public-facing channels, campaigns, partnerships, and executive communications

  • Own brand guidelines, creative standards, digital assets, approval workflows, and quality control

  • Build scalable systems that improve consistency, speed, creative quality, and cross-functional execution

Content & Storytelling

  • Oversee video, audio, written, visual, social, website, and campaign content aligned with brand authority

  • Drive storytelling around client impact, Veteran leadership, community involvement, and mission-driven results

  • Ensure content resonates with Veteran audiences and reflects military culture accurately and authentically

Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence

  • Manage and mentor PR, events, creative, and content contributors

  • Partner with marketing, legal, operations, and executive leadership to drive coordinated execution

  • Set clear priorities, operate with strong judgment, and lead the team toward measurable outcomes

You’d Be a Great Fit If You Have

  • 10+ years of experience in brand, communications, PR, creative, content, or strategic marketing leadership

  • Proven success building or scaling brands where trust, reputation, and community credibility mattered

  • Strong experience with earned media, executive visibility, events, and high-profile communications

  • A portfolio showing strong judgment across websites, creative assets, video, campaigns, events, or storytelling

  • Experience managing content production, creative workflows, brand systems, teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders

  • Excellent writing, editing, messaging, and visual judgment

  • High judgment, attention to detail, and comfort operating in high-visibility environments

  • Ability to drive measurable impact in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization

Bonus Points For

  • Military or Veteran background

  • Experience with Veteran, military, or mission-driven organizations

  • Strong understanding of military culture, Veteran audiences, and service-oriented messaging

  • Background in regulated or high-scrutiny industries such as legal, government, healthcare, financial services, or public affairs

  • Experience supporting rapid growth, national expansion, or reputational inflection points

  • Experience building brand infrastructure inside a scaling organization

  • Austin, TX presence or willingness to spend meaningful time with the leadership team in Austin
