Job Description:
The Director of Community Accounting is responsible for directing the Company's operational accounting and revenue cycle processes. The Director of Community Accounting applies US GAAP principles and reviews journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly reporting packages; serves as the property accounting liaison to internal management; provides critical analysis of changes in account balances; assists in project implementations; supports quarterly reviews and the year-end audit; and supervises, trains and mentors the revenue cycle and operational accounting teams.
Responsibilities:
- Accelerates monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement close and related reporting; constantly drives improvements through automation and process refinement/efficiency
- Develops and implements critical financial policies, procedures, and internal controls and plays a leading role in directing change initiatives and process improvement aligned with growing with the business
- Directs the revenue cycle process, developing and refining operations, overseeing, and training existing revenue cycle employees such that they can perform their jobs accurately and expediently with minimal oversight
- Ensures all property-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly reporting packages are completed according to monthly close schedule and all close deadlines are achieved
- Performs general ledger account analysis, including documenting variance explanations, compared to prior periods and budgeted amounts
- Supervises, trains, develops, and mentors the operational accounting and revenue cycle teams
- Other projects or duties, as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Active CPA license is required
- 10+ years of experience in an operational accounting leadership role
- Track record of improving speed-to-close and managing audits to successful conclusion
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Experience working at a publicly traded company or multi-entity environments required
Skill/ knowledge requirements:
- Experience with computer-based accounting systems required
- Intermediate to advanced MS Excel, including V-lookups, functions, and pivot tables required
- Knowledge of US GAAP, accounting procedures, and internal controls required
- Experience reviewing financial statements and creating variance analyses required
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction
- Solid organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, problem solving, and results.
