Position Overview

The Director of Compliance is responsible for the operational leadership and day-to-day administration of SteerBridge's Compliance Management System (CMS). Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, this oversees the operational execution of SteerBridge's Compliance Management System, including compliance monitoring, transaction monitoring, complaint management, regulatory change management, policy administration, financial crimes compliance, and issuing bank reporting. The Director of Compliance serves as the primary operational liaison with the issuing bank, regulators, auditors, and critical third-party service providers, ensuring delegated compliance responsibilities are executed effectively and in accordance with applicable laws, contractual obligations, and internal governance standards.

The Director of Compliance partners closely with business leaders, operations, product, information security, legal counsel, and third-party service providers to integrate compliance into daily business operations while supporting responsible growth and innovation. This position serves as a key resource for regulatory guidance, compliance oversight, and continuous improvement across the organization.

This is a hybrid position based in Vienna, VA.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Oversee the execution and ongoing administration of SteerBridge’s Compliance Management System (CMS), including compliance frameworks, policies, procedures, risk assessments, and governance processes in partnership with SightSpan.

  • Develop and maintain compliance reporting, dashboards, metrics, and monitoring programs to assess program effectiveness, track findings and corrective actions, and identify opportunities for process and system improvements.

  • Monitor regulatory developments, assess their impact on business operations, and provide compliance guidance related to applicable consumer financial regulations, including Regulation Z, TILA, Regulation E, EFTA, ECOA, FCRA, and UDAAP.

  • Review products, customer communications, disclosures, terms and conditions, and fee schedules to identify compliance requirements and potential risks.

  • Oversee compliance activities related to payment card products, card network requirements, AML/BSA, financial crimes, fraud prevention, sanctions screening, customer due diligence, and banking partner obligations.

  • Coordinate compliance training programs, ensuring required training is identified, tracked, completed, and appropriately reported.

  • Support regulatory examinations, audits, compliance reviews, and banking partner inquiries by coordinating documentation, reporting, responses, remediation efforts, and follow-up activities.

  • Serve as a primary compliance contact for banking partners and critical third-party providers, including processors, fraud providers, and technology partners, while maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications
  • Eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship is required for this position under applicable federal contract requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Law, Criminal Justice, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of compliance, risk, or regulatory experience within banking, financial services, payments, or a related regulated industry.

  • Significant experience within a bank, financial institution, or regulated financial services environment, including experience with payment products, card programs, or banking partnerships.

  • Strong knowledge of consumer financial regulations, including Regulation Z, TILA, Regulation E, EFTA, ECOA, FCRA, and UDAAP.

  • Experience managing compliance programs, including monitoring and testing, risk assessments, reporting, governance processes, regulatory examinations, audits, and banking partner reviews.

  • Strong understanding of AML/BSA, financial crimes compliance, fraud prevention, and sanctions requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of overall professional experience in compliance, risk management, financial services, or a related field.

  • Experience with credit cards, payments, fintech, sponsor or issuing banks, including card network programs and payment processing environments.

  • Experience with Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS), embedded finance, or similar financial services models.

  • Experience partnering with external compliance consultants, advisory firms, or other third-party compliance resources.

  • Relevant compliance certifications such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), or equivalent.

  • Experience developing executive-level compliance reporting, governance materials, and presentations.

$150,000 - $190,000 a year

The posted compensation range reflects the scope and requirements of this position. A final offer will be determined based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and work location, along with the responsibilities of the position. Where applicable, contract requirements, wage determinations, and federal contract labor categories may also inform the offer.
