Job Description

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. The Director of Experiential Education is a full-time administrative position that provides strategic and operational leadership and oversight for all experiential components of the Doctor of Pharmacy program, including Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs). This individual ensures the quality, consistency, and sustainability of experiential education for students in the college's on-campus and distance learning pathways, in alignment with accreditation standards and professional expectations. The Director serves as a key member of the College's leadership team and is responsible for building, maintaining, and advancing a high-quality network of experiential sites and preceptors while ensuring an exceptional student learning experience.

Essential Functions

This position requires regular, predictable, reliable attendance in the office environment.

Experiential Program Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all IPPE and APPE components of the PharmD curriculum
  • Ensure alignment of experiential education with ACPE Standards, Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), and programmatic outcomes
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve experiential policies, processes, and quality assurance measures
  • Work with college leadership to develop and implementing a renewed vision for experiential education, including growth, innovation, and long-term sustainability that closely

Site Development & Preceptor Engagement

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of high-quality experiential sites and preceptors
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with health systems, community partners, and alumni
  • Ensure consistency and quality of preceptor training, evaluation, and ongoing engagement
  • Address site capacity challenges proactively, including expansion into new practice settings

Operational Oversight

  • Direct the coordination, scheduling, and delivery of all experiential rotations across pathways
  • Work with the Director of the Distance Pathway to optimize communication, placement, and support of learning distance students
  • Oversee systems supporting experiential education (e.g., CORE-ELMS or equivalent platforms)
  • Ensure compliance with all institutional, legal, and accreditation requirements related to experiential education
  • Manage the experiential education budget and resources effectively
  • Work closely with the Chair of the Pharmacy Practice Department (within which Experiential Education is housed) to ensure appropriate two-way communication between instructors and preceptors off-campus and instructors and professors on campus to ensure optimal student performance and outcomes

Personnel Leadership

  • Supervise assistant director of experiential education and support staff
  • Lead faculty and staff involved with experiential education to foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Assessment & Accreditation

  • Work closely with the Associate Dean for Assessment and Student Success (or designee) to collect, analyze, and report experiential data for ACPE accreditation, program review, and continuous quality improvement
  • Ensure documentation and evidence supporting compliance with ACPE Standards, particularly those related to experiential education
  • Identify gaps and implement corrective actions as needed

College & University Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the College of Pharmacy Executive Committee
  • Act as a liaison between experiential education, faculty, and administrative leadership, ensuring representation of experiential education on college and university committees
  • Contribute to student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives
  • Collaborate with student services, including career placement and advising

Professionalism & Culture

  • Promote and uphold professionalism among students, faculty, and preceptors
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality student experiences across all experiential settings
  • Address student and preceptor concerns with sound judgment and discretion

Other Duties

  • Teaching in the classroom as assigned and coordinated by the Chair of the Pharmacy Practice Department
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chair of Pharmacy Practice Department

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities. Supervise assistant director of experiential education, support staff, and student employees.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time 12-month position, and the general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel

A valid US Drivers' license with a safe driving record is required.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE accredited institution

  2. Completion of a Postgraduate Year One Pharmacy Residency (PGY1) and/or Postgraduate Year Two Pharmacy Residency (PGY2), or equivalent advanced practice experience

  3. Active pharmacy licensure

  4. Demonstrated experience in pharmacy practice, with a strong understanding of contemporary care delivery models

  5. Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop teams

  6. Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills

  7. Commitment to student-centered education and professional development

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Understanding of accreditation standards, particularly those of Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)

  2. Active engagement in direct patient care or a defined area of pharmacy practice

  3. Evidence of innovation in teaching, practice advancement, or program development

  4. Experience working across multiple delivery pathways (e.g., on-campus and distance education)

  5. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and/or allocate resources effectively

  6. Prior experience in experiential education leadership (IPPE/APPE coordination, site development, or similar roles)

  7. Demonstrated success in preceptor recruitment, development, and retention

  8. Experience working with experiential management systems (e.g., CORE-ELMS or similar platforms)
