Director of Finance & Administration

About

MAVO Systems, Inc., is growing, and our long-term Head of Finance & Administration is retiring. So, we need a leader who can guide the financial systems for us into the future. We are searching for an experienced Director with extensive construction accounting experience to join our team of high-performing professionals and keep our finances positioned for continued success. As a member of senior management, this professional will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills.

The Director, Finance & Administration will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on company operations, helping us to analyze, strategize, and grow our financial position. This seasoned strategist not only will understand current accounting practices and trends but also will have experience in all areas of accounting, cash, AR, payables, fixed assets, payroll, and be able to adapt to change as needed.

Objectives of this role:

  • Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all areas of the accounting department.
  • Have a strong understanding of construction related accounting practices including work in progress (WIP), (which includes percentage of completion, cost in excess of billings/billing in excess of costs), job costing and project analysis.
  • Execute insurance, budgeting, financial reporting, and help drive the company's financial strategy.
  • Coordinate and manage the development of our annual operating, capital, and program budgets.
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization.
  • Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization that has strong fiscal management, project coordination, and controls.
  • Foster good cross-team communications, and workflows that are understandable by the project managers and operational teams.
  • Have a good understanding of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to ensure company compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and work closely with the President to guide daily business operations.
  • Lead the Accounting Staff consisting of two direct reports, and twelve indirect reports.
  • Work to gain the confidence of our operations team.
  • Collaborate with senior managers to efficiently develop budget proposals, provide access to project finance information, and ensure contract compliance and reporting.
  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement.
  • Understand and manage union construction payroll and associated benefit structures.
  • Monitor business performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for earnings calls, management team, and the rest of our company.
  • Manage finance team and oversee financial IT systems ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Five to ten years of progressive experience in accounting/finance leadership roles
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Excellent leadership skills and personal integrity
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues.

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • BS in accounting or finance.
  • Five+ years of public audit accounting experience at a regional accounting firm.
  • CPA strongly preferred. CMA or MBA helpful but secondary to construction experience.
