Job Description
Job Summary:
The Director of Finance is responsible for several aspects of the Company's finance and accounting activities for both the corporate organization as well as the various plants and mills. The Director of Finance has oversight and working responsibilities in several areas including plant accounting and finance, taxation, external audits, budgeting and forecasting, equity accounting and financial and accounting systems.
The Director of Finance works in close collaboration with the CFO (supervisor) and Corporate Controller (peer), as well as with the plant controllers and staff at the various plants and mills.
Key Responsibilities:
Company Tax representative, including the following:
State Tax Filings review & sign, provide information to accounting firm to complete all filings
Federal tax issues and filing, support
Resolve tax notices, state and federal
Company representative for local/state/federal audits for state/property/federal tax issues
Calculate and file some state CAT and excise tax filings
Company audit contact in conjunction with Corporate Controller, including the following:
Main contact between external auditors and company mills for financial statement audit; auditors work on premises 3 months annually; many weeks of prep work for audits
Responsible for resolving audit issues, collecting and reviewing support from each manufacturing for samples
Prepare benefit plan financial statements (401k and ESOP Plan) and any other requested support items. Main point of contact for external auditors during benefit plan audits
Supervisory responsibilities, including the following:
Plant Controllers at all mill locations report to Director of Finance
Hire/fire and resolve personnel issues at mill and corporate staff
Some Corporate staff members are direct reports; current Corporate direct reports include two senior accountants and one staff accountant based in Greensboro, a remote staff accountant, a remote accounting assistant, and a remote part-time staff accountant (total 5.5 employees)
Resolve system/manufacturing/accounting issues at mill locations that have financial impact. Includes all functional areas: Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Accounting
Financial Budgets, including the following:
Review annual budgets with mills and refine to develop final version
Work with plant controllers to explain actual result variances as compared to budget
Stock Options, including the following:
Maintain stock option tracking software used to track stock options issued by company and related reporting
Resolve issues and work with stock option recipients to assist them with understanding stock options and tax implications of stock options
Other duties, including the following:
Responsible for maintaining financial statements for various mills in report writer
Assist company help desk resolve issues submitted by users of company's ERP system related to manufacturing and plant accounting
Work with analysts and developers to develop new processes and procedures for new products, machines, etc.
Primary finance/accounting boots on the ground for new companies acquired by the company
Review monthly financial statements from each company mill for accuracy and completeness before statements are provided to executive management
Work on special projects as assigned by CFO or arise during the normal daily course of running the business
Oversee the accounting aspect of company customer loyalty programs in conjunction with marketing department
Work to register company properly in new states as company expands into new states by hiring new employees and expanding sales or operations
Prior responsibilities included the following:
Served as a member of IT department during the design, development and implementation of ERP system used to run a segment of the company for many years
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Master's preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in Accounting.
- Certified Public Accountant.
- Previous experience as Assistant Controller or Controller in a manufacturing business preferred.
- Multinational experience preferred.
