Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Government Accounting and Compliance to join our Accounting and Finance team in Poway, CA. GA-ASI is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Government Accounting & Compliance to lead the company's government accounting, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness function. This role oversees a high-performing team, ensures adherence to CAS, FAR, and DFARS, and serves as the primary liaison with U.S. Department of Defense auditors and contracting officers.
You will partner across finance, program management, legal, and IT to ensure compliant, efficient operations while driving process improvements and strategic guidance on long-term Finance projects with multiple cross-functional stakeholders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and mentor the government accounting and compliance team; provide training, mentorship, and guidance to less experienced personnel throughout the company.
- Serve as primary contact for DCAA, DCMA, and other government oversight officials; manage audits and regulatory inquiries.
- Maintain CAS compliance and Disclosure Statements; ensure compliance with FAR and DFARS requirements.
- Oversee preparation of final billing rate proposals and support audits thereof.
- Determine propriety of accounting entries associated with projects, accounts, and trial balances in terms of CAS and FAR compliance.
- Provide financial guidance to program managers and business systems owners; support pricing strategy.
- Drive cross-functional process improvements, internal controls enhancements, and ERP initiatives (SAP preferred).
- Prepare executive-level reporting, presentations, and strategic insights on compliance and financial performance.
- Lead development, implementation, and reviews of policies, procedures, and associated documentation. Develop enhanced command media as necessary.
- May prepare and analyze cost structures for new and/or existing areas of the company. May assist in the development of appropriate pricing strategies for new services or products.
- Develop and deliver training on government accounting, compliance, and internal controls.
- Represent GA-ASI in internal and external forums; provide expertise to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and/or finance, and at least fifteen years of professional experience in accounting, finance, government audits, or similar fields, preferably at a government contractor or government agency (DCAA or DCMA).
- Deep expertise in CAS, FAR and DFARS requirements
- Experience leading teams and managing complex audits or regulatory negotiations
- Strong analytical, strategic, and executive communication skills
- ERP experience (SAP preferred); aerospace/defense manufacturing experience a plus
- Demonstrated ability to develop solutions, implement process improvements, and influence cross-functional teams
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office suite, SAP expertise strongly preferred but not required).
- Requires effective presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential, as is the ability to work extended hours.
